Been pushing myself to play a lot more of late (partly thanks to penises like MB and I never miss blue )

    Only kidding of course brothers...

Have to say, I can feel a touch more ferocity coming into my play... My scoring touch has sharpened and I am actually promoting a bit of an improved desire to play safetys...

The forum can help if you're open minded enough to get past the personalities...

I tried it a couple of times and did manage to get one red just in the jaws of the top pocket. A touch more speed and both would have dropped. Maybe I'll iron the table and try again although I'm trying to get my table to slow down a bit to match the club conditions I find in tournaments. Oddly enough cueball ended up in baulk both times.

just a quick 2 questions about the 2nd 51 clearance.

Whereabouts should the two reds on the side cush's be? in between the pink and black or closer to level with pink or black?

Also, how did you play the side cushion shots? plain ball or a trace of side?

I think it was a shade below the pink...

I played in plain ball coz I was dropping it dead weight... The second one depends where the white is as to what you play.

Hi there. The reds are placed on the side cushions just above the black, so you can stun the first red in. Place the cue ball outside of the D though. Either between green and cushion on the baulkline, or the yellow.
You could try placing it in the D but your table cloth may not allow the spin needed to hold. Always play the stun.
On a tight table this first red is very difficult!
I find that these two 51 clearance drills are adequate routines for keeping you sharp. The lineup is great if you're new to it and have yet to complete it, but it does becomes laborious and quite time consuming. This drill is far and away more beneficial. As most shots are covered in this drill.
Its a great gauge to whereabouts your game stands for all levels. I've. Often found that most competent players will usually complete the 1st one on their first attempt. However its a different cattle of fish to manage these consecutively. Let alone the second one.

Its a very fine line indeed to be able to pull it off. Its a balance between matching the amount of sidespin with pace. The pace is most important as it needs to be a tad more than the regular break off delivery. The sidespin is the remainder to get you back to the baulk cushion. Even when the red goes close the result is often quite safe!

                        Thanks for that.

As I said in another post I just managed to clear 15 reds on the line up - took me over 8 years to get there too - more of an aimed for fluke than skill if I'm honest... I love routines as I feel you can measure progress easier than just smashing reds up and seeing what breaks you can get.

I think the 51 clearance is a bit beyond me at this point in time but I feel its achievable. So it will be a new routine in the locker until I do it. See you in 2023 lol.

Without hijacking the tread even more... there is a routine I've nearly done and wondered if you guys could give some advice on it? (can start a new thread if you want)

Its 5 reds between black and the cush. but doing the 5 reds in sequence. starting with the red nearest the black and working down. I've managed 4 but never get the correct angle on the last red. Any advice?

                            Practice mate

Congrats on pulling off the line out... It takes some doing that first few times. Soon it will be muscle memory and you spot patterns.

I'll film that 5 reds routine later after I've had a snooze... Maybe get Luke to hold the ipad so that you can see the black end.

I try the same sort of routine with 3 or 4 reds between black and cushion. I find its best to start on the red nearest cushion than the one nearest black. It gets the harder shots out the way first and even if you miss a few it's great practice on the harder shots, you end up learning more. It's the sort of routine that you use the black cushion on all shots and finish high on every shot to get to the next one.
