Saw the vid you posted. Told my mate and he thought it was impossible. We set it up and about my 15th attempt I got it and we both were laughing our heads off, felt a nice shot to pull off.

that thread was simply a misunderstanding - the people who claimed "it" was impossible were talking about a different shot ... iirc, playing the white from yellow/green spot off the black end cushion with enough side to clip the black on it's spot back into a black corner pocket ... that's a completely different shot to a direct cut ...

It is a lot harder to use top spin and pot both balls into a top pocket. Thus Steve's comment on the 10 in a row.
Steve Davis discussed this in his video "Snooker The Champion's Way" - see 36.44 onwards in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpeZmBrv8bg ...

What he actually says is "when you can pot this shot ten times out of ten you are a better player than I am - if the white ball goes in as well, that's absolute proof that you're hitting the ball dead centre" ... I take that to mean that he wouldn't expect to pot 10 out of 10 whether the white follows in or not ... also see how far the white rolls from a medium power shot (if that) - on any table I've played on, the white wouldn't have made it half way to the pocket and that's playing with my own set of well looked after TC balls ...

Heres a quick attempt at a line up. 101 run, should have been a total clearance of 133 lol but I made a terrible shot on the last blue... was fixed between two shots and never really made up my mind getting down. Amateur mistake lol. Think I should have tried to hold for the yellow by rolling it in rather than try and come in between brown and green...but whatever the case I should have committed to it.

Nice, I think you picked the right shot on the last blue, you just ballsed it up, it was the only shot you didn't look confident on.

Cheers, yea that seems to be my main problem....Ill have a nice run going and then run out of position and make a careless recovery shot. Very frustrating especially when you're second guessing yourself getting down on the shot haha.

That's the difference between the pro's and us mere mortals. Great line up though Oma, love the pace you play at and can see your enjoying yourself around the table. My input for what it's worth is you had to play the last blue from a difficult position because of playing the last red round the angles and short of pace. Maybe have played that shot a little different.

Haha definitely, guess it just comes with experience. And yea you're right the last two shots were definitely rushed. I was thinking play for the blue so its easier to get on the yellow but theres always that danger in coming up short or over running when having to travel greater distances. Would you have possibly played for the pink or black instead? I always get nervy on the last shot to get to the yellow from black haha. Would like to be as close to the yellow as I can in fear of messing up. Just something I gotta work on I guess, appreciate the input!

From the angle you left on the red I would have just dropped it in and run down for the black. I need work on black to yellow myself so I thought you played for blue to get to yellow easier lol. Even though you play quick I don't think you rush, obvious you can think over the shots quickly and execute them, you calculate the best shot available. Maybe more thinking time actually confuses your choice in the end.

I think you're probably right...A lot of times If I over think a shot I find something usually does go wrong and ironically it seems to break my concentration / ruin the break flow. I need to learn to re focus when something goes wrong rather than go into the shot frustrated and wing it. The blue wasnt that tough of a shot and I like to think I would have made it on average. I find its really tough to choose the right decision in the later stages of a high break, so easy to stump on a key shot and second guess yourself...yet you feel pressured to take the risk anyway. Guess thats what differentiates good players from great players.

You said it was a quick attempt of which you missed the blue so why didn't you just do it again.

I usually only do one or two line ups a day in practice then do other drills to work on my weaker areas. Can usually clear up on a good day so don't see the point in redoing it lol.

                                oma:

Actually, I think your 2nd last red was the wrong one and you should have taken the other red to get either pink or black (difficult to assess the angle on the screen) then come back up for the last red. This would mean your cueball is traveling less and thus your position would be more accurate. Depending on the angle you got on the last red from black or pink would determine whether you take blue, pink or black to get on the yellow.

I favour the blue ball but I also practice using pink or black and play for position where the cueball will be running on a line towards the yellow and I also practice a longer yellow if I end up straight on the blue or pink.
