  • Some Help and good Advice needed please

Hi all, this is a line up ive put on here to show my standered of Snooker and to ask for some sound advice with regards to improving, since this vid was done ive now got 3 feathers in my cue action for every shot and a pause at the back,
If someone who knows what their on about can give me some pointers that i can practice and work on id really appreciate it as you cant get a pro lesson in North Wales.
p.s. i had a kick on the pink! honest! lol look at the pace of the white.
    cheers Mark

Benidorm!!....in all seriousness you look like a very good player to me with not many obvious technical faults.

You made short work of that line up so your doing something right. Nothing really obvious stands out that could be altered when your playing like that, maybe the coaches on here would say cue a little more parallel to the table but otherwise you look decent. Nice snooker room and table looks in great condition, must be a pleasure to play on.

      What's your best break Mark?

you seem consistent in everything you do which is a key ingredient I keep banging on about - you seem a quite a technical player - I can tell by the way you find the line deliberately with the cue first and its obvious you worked hard on your game.

Maybe concentration is an issue when you miss and heard you whistling and looking at saw you looking at the light and TV on our way around the table and as soon as you missed your rhythm stopped but overall quite nice and easy for you that line up is so I would try a few more challenging routines requiring more precise position and maybe a few flair shots to keep you entertained.

        Nice snooker room - jealous

            haha...sry about the Benidorm!
my highest break in a match is 80 but lately i'm getting regular breaks above 60, i had a 73 a few days ago against a good player,
just want to improve and get that Century break before i'm too old, (45 now!)
Table is a Burroughs and Watts steel block, plays nice

Carry on break building like that and it's just a matter of time before you get that elusive century. My first and probably last came out of the blue a few months ago, 112 and I'm 42 so plenty life in us 40 something's lol. Wish I had my own table though, it's down the club for me 3 or 4 times a week.

Nothing too drastic but here's what I recommend:

                1. Turn OFF the TV.
                2. Shorten the bridge just a tad. It looks like you have around 14" from the 'V' to cueball, should be around 12".
                3. On a couple of the shots where you used more power I noticed a bit of upper body movement forward. Eliminate that on power shots.
                4. If you like something on during practice get an iPod and speakers because the visuals on the TV will detract from your concentration.
                5. Make your line-up harder as you have the skill set to move forward. Use the 4-5-6 configuration (4 between black and cushion...etc) or even 5-5-5
                6. Try the 'star' or 'cross' line up configuration as they both more closely follow what will happen in an actual frame.

Good luck hitting your century soon, you certainly have the skill and just need more practice I think.

Cheers Terry, some good advice there to work on, i have tried the cross line up before and also a circle of reds around the pink, ill give the 4-5-6 a go later on this afternoon, the 5 reds behind the black sounds a bit evil but ill have a go.
                  cheers

If you watch this link.... Specifically 11 mins to 12 mins it has a good routine for positional play..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZA67elaLPI ( that can be replicated on any colour on the table)....
