Anyone thinking about how they approach a shot or how they grip on the backswing will unfortunately not improve IMO, playing snooker should be automatic just like driving a car, too many people have lost years in their game because they overthink way to much

a huge +1. thoughts about technique should be left at the practice table.

Yep, you do have to think about it if you're adding something new to your game and it is painful to do at first, but the more you do it the more it becomes natural in your game.

I try and teach what I believe the best pros are doing in common. I know what I do isn't going to work for everyone and I just wish I could do what I teach. For instance long backswings and rear pause are common with the top pros and I teach those but I can't do them. Don't go assuming you know what I do and what I teach.

And you are always pushing the 'no coaching' thing when coaches do help people because not everyone can pick this up naturally and run all those tons like you do, some people need help in order to improve. I wonder what skill level you could have reached if you had taken some advice or coaching.

It should occur naturally with no thought on your part as on a longer backswing the butt of the cue will sort of 'push' the back 3 fingers out but they should still remain in contact with the butt (although Hendry used to open his right up and off the cue at the end of his backswing and that certainly worked for him and when he first tried that out I imagine he had to think about it).

Try these things out in solo practice only, not during a match or even games with your friends.

Not having a pop Terry as I know you mean well in your every post so don't think I'm having a go. Coaches do help yes I agree but to some they do and to some they don't, I've reached my level and I know I couldn't ever get any better

All these things that terry said have to be followed with getting full knowledge i guess because half knowledge is dangerous

If i follow the grip advice and i dont have any idea of elbow alignment it wont do me any good i guess...
              Thanxx terry

here is the paragraph I found.

""Butt size is rather important. If you are just starting to play snooker, go with a standard butt size of 29.5mm. If however, you have been playing the game a while, and the basics of your cue action have become second nature (someone having played more than 6 months for example), it’s recommended that you stay with the same butt size as was on your previous cue so that your cue action isn’t dramatically affected. If you have longer than average fingers, or above average height, than a larger butt size may be beneficial. If the butt size is too big for your hand, your hand won’t release properly from the cue during delivery. Generally, when cueing you are supposed to have a soft touch with your cueing hand until after the cue ball has been hit. Think like this when cueing: soft hand feather, soft hand feather, soft hand feather, soft hand backswing, cue ball strike, grip the cue to catch it. The heaving gripping shouldn’t happen until after delivery so a comfortable butt size is important. Conversely, if the butt size is too small, you will find that your wrist starts to twist, turn, and flick. Some wrist flick is useful to have on certain shots, but if your cue butt size is so small it’s happening on every shot, it’s not good."""

                    Is this correct...?
Because even when everythng is working alright i am still twisting the grip on some shots

It could well be if you have big hands and a small butt size. To check it out cheaply maybe wrap some electrical tape or duct tape around the butt and bring it up a few millimeters and see if the wrist turning stops. I am NOT pushing this as a cure-all as there are a few reasons why the wrist turns with the most common being tightening the grip too tight and too early in the delivery.

It's just a simple case of slightly lifting your middle finger from the cue!

in fairness to the OP, I had a similar problem and, back then, I didn't know I was nipping the cue on the final part of the delivery causing me to twist my wrist - caused me to become way less accurate on long shots and screws became more of a stun.

But I do agree, there isn't one way to cue - otherwise we'd all adopt the best way and suddenly become J6 knocking in back to back tons and max's
Where ever have I trolled ?

Do u have a large hand !! Bcus in that case , The size of the button is important !! Has to suit ur griphand !!

Haha! Ramon was that an intentional play on words ( button > suit ) If so, my hats off to you sir

Well as long as you keep potting them balls all is well.
Reading the thread I am getting concerned about Terry - he mentions big hands, small butts and wrist cocks in his posts .... LOL

Keep Calm and keep playing that Snooker buddy
