first time iv picked my cue up for a few months an i thought i would share some of what i an no doubt many others work on when preparing for the new season

first video is me taking this to the table an on bualk line, im practicing doing s, m, l, xl pace shots just like in real time play, an im watching the middle of the ferrule travel along the line on the back and front swing.
the second and third videos are me in the kitchen with my own matchbox trainer creation, an if anyone is interested in one pm me for details. this is one segment from the whole devise, of which has a few variables to suit the individual

Smooth. Out of interest, what is your method for getting the cue on line? Standing behind, line in the middle or foot online and a slight lean?

right foot/ hip. head slightly forwards as im walking in, sort of ready to drop, straight down like a weight.
the first pause at the white gives me a little time for the hips to settle so im stable an on balance. then just cueing from the elbow , looking though the whole shot seeing everythings stright. if i dont feel right i stand an reset, as im doing after every simulated shot in these training videos.
i feel a bit rusty but in a few weeks all this should become more flued

gooner, whats your approach to the shot, and what do you do for training cue action and stright cueing?

Much the same, Left foot, grip already there. Slight lean so that head is straight down. I only asked as I think its the most important part of the shot process and something I struggle with. Get that part right and everything else follows.

Usually just do long straight pots to check cueing but I could certainly see the benefits from your gadget.

Other players should also note the way j6 starts his delivery. It starts very slow and then accelerates all the way to the end. This avoids the jerkiness a player will have if he tries to accelerate rapidly right from the rear pause and also helps with not gripping the cue too tight during the delivery and before the strike

yes an its recognising the bits that dont feel right , liketention, hips, balance, elbow, a lazy support leg..

yes this training really put me in a better place in terms of reliable, consistent cueing. this is one section of three, but even so this alone can get a player moving in the right direction in no time

You look quite uncomfortable holding that cue J6 on certain shots, is your bent arm natural or not?

I would say the cue is too short. Seems a lot of effort to move the cueball around because you are having to cue up close to the white with your bridge hand. That isn't giving you a lot of follow through and I can imagine after playing a few frames, you will start to feel tired quickly having to use a lot of effort moving the white around the table.

I used to play with a 56.75" cue and although I'm 5' 10" I knew it was having a detrimental impact on my game. Great in the balls when you are just using soft screw and stun shots, but any power shots or certainly playing on slow tables it was a struggle. BTW the table you played on looks pretty slow but that could be because of the lack of follow through and failing to generate spin easily.

I now use a cue just short of 58" and its made it so much easier now to get through the ball and generating the necessary power with just a nicely timed stroke. You watch any of the pros and they rarely have to generate much power because its all about the timing. I know you said in your vid that you felt your timing was off, but I'm sure that's because of the lack of follow through. Not looking to be critical because I can see you can play, but sometimes players can be a little stubborn about things like that.

yeah it all feels natural, as for the discomfort thats would be cus i get it in the neck, from the computer, driving, cuework, sleeping on a two seater sofer, and from her indoors

i hear you cueman an thanks for your imput,
i know i really need a cue around the 58 mark and though my current cue has the moves for sure if i was playing seriously i would be on the hunt for one an inch or so longer.. an yes you can spot it a mile off that the tables a rug that never sees a block or iron
for me its loosing the cue under the body thats the hardest thing to control but everything seems effortless in terms of moving the ball around. it may look like a struggle cus of my moody boat, but pushing that cue through is coming from the elbow so its nothing, if it werent for commitments and if my body let me i could do it all day
im keen on getting into this a bit more so i will do some more training vids this week
