  • Playing on different tables

During our competition we have to play on different tables. With different kinds of cloth (Some fast, some slow) different size pockets and different cushion bounces.
Yesterday we had to play tables with a very slow cloth and bouncy cushions. This threw me off my game completely. I wasn't able to play any decent safeties involving cushions and my pace was completely off which left a lot of the OBs in front of the pocket for my oponent to drop in. Seriously it was like playing in mud.
So question is : how do you handle these kind of situations? Part of the solution will be experience of playing on different tables, but are there any tips or techniques you can share on how to get back in the game.

yeah, just be quicker or slower through the white depending on the table. the conditions will be the same for everyone so dont let it mess with your mind.

It's difficult. At my local club we can go from playing on a slow treacle like table with massive pockets to a lightning quick star table. You just have to persevere and alter your game a little to cope with the conditions, there is no 'quick fix'.

I find that hitting the white over the spots, up and down the table, and then playing a few shots off three or four cushions (aiming for the baulk line) helps me get the pace of the table. Clearly there is going to be some fine tuning necessary while you play, but that seems to help me not to be six foot off on my safety shots!

If you get the chance to se someone on the table before you. It is sometimes good to see what shots they are refusing. Some clubs 'down the rail' shots are easy, and them some aren't.

Getting used to the pace of the table is just an advantage the home player has straight away. Just try and adjust quickly!
