  • Snooker practice routines...

..on a pool table. Any recommendations?

I have a pool table, and can't get out anything like enough to play snooker. On the whole I find playing on a pool table next to useless for taking to the larger format game. The most useful thing I've found to do is to play a form of billiards (full size billiard balls) as practice - because at least it helps a little with cue ball control and use of side to get the cue ball moving on the right line after contact with the OB.

Can anyone recommend any useful practice routines on a pool table, which will help with snooker on a full size table?

Something particularly towards improving timing the strike might be helpful. Coming from a cue with a whippy shaft and small tip, I'm used to it being easy to throw the white ball around, but with a stiffer shaft and circa 9.5 tip, I'm now struggling a bit more to develop cue power...particularly on deep screws.

Not much you can do on a pool table mate, I would place the black over the hole and scatter some reds or yellows around the table if you miss start over. Helps with pressure and clearing.

think when u switch to a snooker table u will feel foreign....but if its a full 9ft table, you could play the longish pots but the size of the pockets might mean this will be too easy either...

It's not. It's a seven foot table, and much as it's fun when people visit it's a bit of a toy of a game. I was just wondering if anyone had come up with anything useful to do with it....

I have a 9ft table at home ( Full Snooker Specs and the biggest i could fit ) made by the best Australian table maker we have. I play games easily with the 15 Reds in the 1G Aramith set and my pockets are the exact size as what the world template is ( or should be as this is always discussed ) at exactly 1 and 3/4 inches or 79mm at the throat of the pocket.

I love it and many good players struggle on my home table as our club 12ft table has wider pockets than what my 9ft table does at home! Yeah it is tight but the way it is meant to be and the Pros just make it look so easy cause they are just so good at it.

Photo here of it here ( With my MW legend on it!! ) and the photo does not do it justice on the crappy phone and this is with the full Aramith 1G set on it and it is tight trust me.

That table looks superb mate. I'd love to see a video of you knocking a few balls around on there.

Howdy yeah I've got same problem with 7x3/12 8ball table. Try putting ball on blue spot n pot stuns shots to each corner and see how many you can get or off pink spot version. Also shooting off cushion etc Dead straight pots down the rail or just off. Blind corner pots etc. Heaps if you think outside the box and its never going to be at the real thing but it all helps if it's a weakness you can Improve It. Hope this gives you some ideas.

                    Very nice indeed Chappy.

I started off with a 10ft table and carried on playing on it until the right spec Full Size came along and I did enjoy playing on the 10ft. I found playing with the correct balls a nice cloth doesn't take you to far away from enjoy playing on a full size.

The only downside I would say I did only play with only 10 reds on the 10ft, I found 15 reds was too much for that size and very cluttered at times.

I would recommend though anyone got the room for a 9ft or a 10ft Go fit it!

                      I like the table.

As long as your playing with correct balls I can't see it causing any harm to your game.

Frustrating if your knocking in breaks twice as large though!
