  • I've screwed so much with my technique if gotten worse...

I've been practicing snooker now steadily for a year (mainly practicing.) But I tend to play the old guys at the club sometimes. I try to get at least an hour of snooker practice a day. And at first I was seeing improvement. Then I hit my highest break of 42 during a match. And then followed the next week with 35. I was very happy with myself. I started practicing more hours sometimes 4-5 hours a day. Always trying to get my cue action and delivery better. Aiming , sighting , stance , grip everything the internet could help me with. But now I think i've overdone my brain.

When I'm calculating an angle and getting down my mind is going crazy between aiming systems It goes something like this "Foot on line , watch out keep the left leg pointing straight , fu*k I should have used ghostball technique , am I holding the que right, Am I holding to tight. Is my bridge steady , is my bridge hand to close to the CB".

My main problem is aiming. 3/4 1/2 ... technique , ghostball technique or should I just make a line from my bellybutton to point of contact. Point is. Im fuc*ed.

What can I do? I want that century so I can die a happy man.

Ps I cant see a coach. It's just something that is not available here.

What the hell - how can you pot anything when your head is like a circus? Its amazing you made a 40 with all that going on.

You have over learnt I would say - looking for a magic cure or secret no doubt?

Good luck mate hope you find your way.

You were on the right track by the sounds of it and the 4-5 hours practice would have seen your game really take off after six months of that, sounds like you're to impatient mate.
Get back to basics and enjoy the game

I'm not a coach But I do agree with Byrom and Geordi .
Not saying you do'nt have to do it right , But try not to think too mutch .
I know a coach who said to me once , try to learn on thing at the time ( Not all togthr ).
Find a way for ur grip ( what ur comfortble with ) and work on that . Forget about everything else , just work
On your grip until become a consistent habit . After that , work on ur aiming for a few days .
Or Sumthing els . Do one thing at the time until you learn to do that on a consistent way and you do'nt have to think about
It any more . If you try to learn every aspect of ur tqnk at the same time , then you gonna get a head just like Byrom
        Said ( circus ). Anyway, it's Sumthing I heard from a coach . Could be a useful advice ? Who knows !!
I hope u enjoy ur game and get sum better advices here on this thread .

Way to many players over think their sighting, approach etc when really all you're doing is messing about. I've seen players approach shots and you'd think they woud be ton breakers and played for years but the reality is they stuggle to hit a pony because they've not learned the basics of potting.

I've always thought snooker to be very much like golf in the thinking side as they are both dead ball.

I generally focus on a couple of things in practice (no more or you are blinded by 'stuff' rather than the pot) and a confident approach and rhythm in a match.

Some top golfers have a 3 yd imaginary line where they do their pre-shot routine and anything else they want to do, they then look at the fairway and imagine the shot, then the second they step over the imaginary line they just try and hit that shot without thinking of other stuff so they can be clear to recreate what they have just seen. If the last thing you see is s slice in your head you'll probably play one.

In snooker I know that Terry Griffiths also teaches the 'See the shot in your head' prior to playing it, like imagining a video of the ball going in.

Why not work on your technique (one or two things) on your own, say the line up. Maybe prior to playing the shot, stand up and see the shot and start the whole routine of just playing what you saw (stepping over the 3 yd line) by placing your foot on the line of the shot.

If you've still got stuff in your head then you need to work on getting a blank mind and just seeing the ball go in.

Just a thought, got to clear that head out...........

Since coming on to this forum I've always thought it could be a nightmare for a newcomer to read the endless posts about technique, especially with so many 'experts' offering their opinions (for the record there are members who offer valuable insight but many who don't). You're overcomplicating what is already a difficult enough game.

Get back to enjoying the game and start thinking less (difficult to do I know).

A video may help as J6UK says above. At least then the people giving you advice can see what is wrong rather than speculating about it.

In my mind, the correct advice has already been given to you here. Concentrate on ONE thing at a time. Choose whichever one you feel is the most confusing for you or the most problematic and work on just that one thing until you've mastered it and it becomes second nature.

Then pick the next worst thing and work on that. It will take time but I'm afraid there's no easy way out from the state you have yourself into now and you need CLARITY. In other words, one thing to concentrate on and forget the rest for now.

First one is me playing a straight soft blue. Second one is me playing a small line up , and the third is a small line up with a different angle. Sorry about the
camera being tight , i forgot to turn my phone vertical. , might need to fullscreen it to see it better. Any advice would be appreciated. Im self taught from the begining, So go easy on me.

If you wanna see any different angle or anything , I can upload a new video.

                          Thanks in advance.

Maybe 8-13 hours. Its different from week to week. I try to get at least an hour a day. Maybe I just need to stop whining and put more of those 3,4,5 hour sessions in? And focus on one thing at a time.
