    That is why no pro will play a match without practice if they are able to.
    It is a must to get quickly into a game - and pro's will be likely to lose confidence if they don't have practice and their opponent does.

    Failing that, you can just sit down somewhere and imagine going through your pre match routine which may be more valuable as you don't (or shouldn't!) miss in your head!
    Failing THAT, get to the table quickly and while your opponent is getting his cue out just get down to the table to stretch the stance and do a couple of dummy deliveries with power (NOT hitting the cue ball). That may just put you ahead mentally of your opponent as you are a little more prepared and leading proceedings.

    The other thing is that DURING the match, and when you opponent is making a break, you need to keep moving around / changing position in your chair (but only in a way that your opponent doesn't notice/ get distracted by). This prevents your body getting stiff in the seat or when stood away from the table for long periods - giving you more chance of potting that first ball of your 50 break, instead of allowing your opponent the 50 points.
    To be fair I think you're right. I played pool tonight but only turned up at 7.45pm, therefore I only got a few shots before playing my first singles match. Next time I'm going to turn up earlier and have a good warm up.

    I want to make it as a county pool player. I've got trials soon. I think I need to tackle it in a more professional manner.

      they had three rooms, two were a four table setup with the best conditions, then there was i think an 8table room call the sweat box also with nice tables but with normal club cofin lights. yeah you could get some time in this room but you need to get there early, an if you were there for the season festivals then youd but lucky to get some frames in, too many players.
      iv been there with good prepertion long walks fit as a fiddle, no vic, an couldnt win a frame lol. then i had some of my best results without hitting a ball before hand, just up all night drinking getting to know players. dink yourself sober an hit the table. couldnt miss

        All in all sounds like a fun experience. I know who you mean about fickle results and preparation. Had one tournament where I woke up with plenty of time before I had leave, healthy breakfast, warmed up for 30 minutes...lost every game. Another tourney, woke up 30 min before I had to leave, ate fast food in the car, showed up literally 20 seconds before I had to be there...semi-finals. Oh well.
