Precisely why it's important. A little throw can make a big difference at snooker. Not everyone is a maxy monster like you mate. Some of us need all the help we can get.

I do use side, but its not blatant 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock striking.

Example, 1/2 ball on the green to pot it in its green pocket, left towards its pocket opening. I play them with subtle right hand side which twangs the CB off the side cush back down for the reds or even to split them, if needed. Remember, its subtle though.

I had played for 20years without even realising cues deflect! It sounds incredulous but it is true.

The depths of ignorance within the snooker world is simply astonishing, and one of the reasons it's a dying game. Players know it all and simply will not change with the times. It is very sad. Of course the real problem is all these people are maxy monsters, who've never missed a ball. Knowing what happens when balls collide can only stop them being the great players they so undoubtedly are.

another truly condescending post from mr know it all, i didn't waste twenty years like you did so please catch up

Goodness, it's worse than i feared.

After every experiment dave asks players to replicate his experiments to make sure they are correct. This is called 'peer review'. His experiments cannot therefore be called 'opinion'. If you think his methodology is flawed you are perfectly free to correct him, for which he, being a scientist first and foremost, will undoubtedly thank you. Off you pop, then.

To you? I caught, and significantly surpassed, you at 20 months, let alone years.

Your, ahem, thought processes are a little puzzling. How, precisely, am i meant to present my own ideas on what happens when balls collide? Would you like me to rewrite the laws of physics for you?

What level are you at Tommy? If your running out of position alot I'd say using side is going to make the game even harder for you.

                        What?

If you're asking if knowing what will happen to the object ball when applying side spin to the cue ball has helped my game, the answer is a resounding yes.

Still wish I'd never heard of gearing, though. Thanks dr dave! l

So you have gone from what standard to what standard of snooker?

Agreed. Cue sports are all about mastery of centre ball (vertical axis). Spin for show, centre for dough.
