What level are you at Tommy? If your running out of position alot I'd say using side is going to make the game even harder for you.

Breaks could be between 20 - 40 on a good day but im going with a coach next week hoping in the next year to improve so i can play competition and not get slaughtered

Well, i started of really crap, like the first time i played and that, and am now only mildly crap.

Your making the right move seeing a coach, he can see you first hand and work one to one on your game. You will get advice on your basics and he will see when you can move on to the more advanced ideas. My own experience was I wanted to keep the game simple while I learned so until I was getting regular 50s I'd use side sparingly and concentrate on leaving myself nice angles for the next shot.

One thing I've observed through a lifetime of hanging around a wide range of cue sport players: they ain't terribly bright. And it's the same the world over.

The other thing I've noticed: they tend to have monster egos and a complete lack of awareness about their own playing ability. They're gunslingers, each and every one.

How does he practice playing side? Should he actually be doing that? If not what strategies should he be employing?
