Breaks could be between 20 - 40 on a good day but im going with a coach next week hoping in the next year to improve so i can play competition and not get slaughtered

Your making the right move seeing a coach, he can see you first hand and work one to one on your game. You will get advice on your basics and he will see when you can move on to the more advanced ideas. My own experience was I wanted to keep the game simple while I learned so until I was getting regular 50s I'd use side sparingly and concentrate on leaving myself nice angles for the next shot.

What are you talking about? If you are saying only snooker players are any good at cue sports, you're nuts.

You lot. Lol. Never missed a ball, have ya? Lol!

Ad hominem attacks are not only worthless to the original poster, they are wholly unjust in this instance as Mr B provided a link to a wealth of empirical evidence regarding sidespin (courtesy of Dr David Alciatore) along with sage advice on its deployment for both professionals and novices alike.

To dismiss such research out of hand displays a level of chutzpah seldom seen since Lizzie Borden threw herself upon the mercy of the court as an orphan.

So, we have a mildly crap poster who doesn't understand sarcasm (as well as other topics too numerous to mention, clearly).

One thing I've observed through a lifetime of hanging around a wide range of cue sport players: they ain't terribly bright. And it's the same the world over.

The other thing I've noticed: they tend to have monster egos and a complete lack of awareness about their own playing ability. They're gunslingers, each and every one.

Anyone interested in actually helping the original poster, or are you all off doing your own thing now?

How does he practice playing side? Should he actually be doing that? If not what strategies should he be employing?

If your sense of smell is as risible as your sense of humour, then yes, quite possibly.
