My wrist twists as soon as i grip around the cue like a hammer as per coching advice .Sometimes i feel the width of the butt can twist your wrist as you wrap your fingers around the cue but i am not sure if this is the case.Has someone else faced the same problem?Could anyone tell how to wrap your fingers so that no tension develops in the wrist.Thanks.

I found that as I pushed through my writ twisted which caused me to cue off line so I looked at the whole grip thing.
For me (and not advocating this is for everyone), this is what I do:
I have a J Parris cue so it has a circular badge.
As I approach the shot I have the opposite side of my little finger knuckle (palm side) on the badge with the 'V' between my thumb and 'index' finger pointing directly downward and wrap my fingers around the butt.
If you imagine holding a tube of toothpaste with the lid off, I grip if enough that I wouldn't squeeze any out.
On the top of my cue because of the way I hold it I have a piece of grain in the middle so I focus on delivering this straight through when in practice and can see if it is still on the top after the follow through which will help me see if I am still twisting.
This may not help you and others may disagree as to the method but it works for me and is a good indicator as to whether I have kept the cue straight at the end of the shot.
When I start to hit balls right (my common floor), I know I am gripping too tight or twisting and impact.

Players that have a straighter wrist hang tend to twist the cue on delivery..

I've experimented with twisting the cue on delivery because I notice I get a better reaction from the cue ball and object ball but it feels too risky to adopt so I try my best to avoid any twisting. If my wrist is straight and I feather gripping with the thumb and index finger allowing the remaining fingers to rest on the cue I can deliver knowing when I'm twisting my wrist because the angle of my wrist moves off centre. I always have the cue in the same position as well with the faceplate facing up. I've often wondered if any top players twist the cue and it would be easy to see as the grain of the cue would give it away but it would have to be viewed in slow mo.Last edited by MrRottweiler; 2 April 2016, 11:51 PM.

I know what you mean because I can see that in his grip hand when he strikes. I think Jimmy White also twisted his cue but I would be surprised if people like Hendry and Ronnie advocated the twist as a means to get more angle out of the shot. I only use them as a reference because they are the biggest century makers in the game.

wow I had no idea Ronnie played like that. Maybe I've been ignoring a valuable tool in breakbuilding. It could be useful when used sparingly on shots out of position that might need a thin snick. I find those circumstance can be greatly assisted with twisting the cue but it goes against every other shot I play where I try to keep the cue straight. Any twisting means the wrist bends left-right which is something all the coaching books I've read say is forbidden.

I've not looked at any videos so I'm only making a suggestion here, if you see the cue rotate but it is still coming through straight I would say it's happening as he closes his grip, so it's not his wrist twisting it's just his fingers closing that turning his cue ,are there any links to this? As I say I'm only guessing. This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

IMO that's a timing thing then, I would also hazard a guess it's happening after contact. This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!
