  • Ronnie's pressure on grip

I was watching the Ronnie O'Sullivan show and he was talking about pressure on the grip in his masterclass.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRR9A4ehZC8

This is actually something I have been wondering about and have tried to talk about in this thread (http://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/boa...246#post873246)

What are the thoughts from the more experienced players on this? Most of the advice I've been given is to keep the grip as light as possible while Ronnie's saying that you need vary the pressure depending on the type of shot.

    Yeah good post.

I think it important to try and keep the cueing the same feathers speed everything for consistency as he says as I feel it helps with your timing on the shot.
I too squeeze a 'bit' more on the harder stun and the power shots that need a lot of screw back for example shots bit of pressure and release through the shot 'like a coiled spring'- someone on TSF member called Inevermissablue (one member I would gladly pay for a lesson) mentioned this to me a while ago so I adapted it to my game and it must say it helped my game on these shots tremendously.

Each to their own with this vary the grip method I feel I also point my first finger down sometimes on long shots as it stops me over gripping.

The benefit of varying the grip is to enable you to keep your action and the speed you hit the ball more the same each time.

The other ways you would vary the length of the pull back in your cueing more or move up and down the cue or vary the speed of the hit perhaps.
No absolute right way everyone is a little different - finding what keeps you more consistent and happy with your game personally is the key
