Opportunity to play snooker in Oslo becomes worse....

Now is Biljardhuset with 2 fullsize tables closing down in July.
The snooker tables is allready sold.
That means it is harder to play snooker in Oslo.
I´m still young, and my dream is to turn pro a day, but im worried about the situation of snooker in Norway.
I have no coach or training partner, have developed my own unorthodox grip and cuearm, this because it is nobody to do this with.
HELP!

I don't know how old you are but if you are still in the 20s, why don't you consider moving in the UK/Ireland to work or study (depending on your current activity)? There, you'd find all you need to improve your game and maybe give you a shot at being a pro one day. Obviously, I know it's a tough one to exil from your own country.

Normally, I'm off to Ireland next September to work up there, for 2-3 years maybe. I do it for many personnal reasons but I also do it because I know I'll be able to have an excellent level of snooker to compete in. With a LOT more tables than here in my region, a LOT of better players to play against...Ireland = fantastic country, great people, good economy, nice girls, GUINNESS and.....great snooker!

You know Trevor, Breton and Irish people, it's quite the same. We're all Celt, we're all cousins...So for us, Bretons, it's almost an evidence to love Ireland, as well as Scotland and Wales.

...and yet snooker tables are being removed from clubs, the result being that Norwegians are losing opportunities to play the game.

In the early 90s there was 25-30 tables in Oslo and snooker was quite popular. Mainly due to the extensive coverage on Eurosport of the excellent one-off tournament Mita World Masters, and there was also snooker on Screensport and BBC world.

After snooker dissapeared from tv tables started to dissapear aswell. It was more profitable to replace them with american pooltables as that is the number one cuesport over here, and because of the size you get more tables in.

Right now after extensive coverage on Eurosport for several years snooker is probably more popular than ever (on a recreational level) but clubs still don't want to replace the pooltables since thats still way more popular.

Actually Biljardhuset was planning to add 1-2 snookertables but the place is closing down due to landlord not renewing the lease, so its not like theire removing the snookertables by choise. The rent in downtown Oslo is murderous.

Now theres only 4 tables left in Oslo. The 3 tables on my club are running hot every night. Its now impossible to just drop in at any night expecting to find a table. (I'm not counting Maflins practice table cause thats basically off limits)

I've played snooker on/off for about 17 years now and its a very fruststrating sport to play here. Between the lack of tables, the sub-par condition on most of them, the lack of people at my or above my level wanting to practice, and the lack of people showing up on ranking events its just hard to find the motivation to get as much practice in to even be able to maintain my mediocre standard.

oh well after all is said and done you'll still find me knocking in some balls once or twice a week. Can't let it go :-)
