I agree there is a danger if you want more follow through with the cue and to achieve this you could come around the chest or move up to let the hand come under( kind of McManus or Fu stylie) also if you are a chest thumper I could see trouble along the movement lines, but finishing into the chest is different than thumping into it, it's used as a reference point for straight cueing, same place ,same result kind of thing. Well that's how I use it anyway for all I know I could be doing it wrong.
You've got me intrigued Golfy, I am off to have a look at Mags cue action lol.

All the old time players dropped the elbow. The old balls were much heavier though and took more power to manouver around as can be seen in this old video of Joe.

Through my experience, I have learnt that the elbow drops when your elbow is not high up. In order to get your elbow high up , you might need to change your stance. A squarer stance helps to get the elbow high up while if you have more of a boxer stance your elbow would not be as high. So, Place your right foot directly over the line of aim , don't have the foot slightly to the right, infact you may want to have your right foot(for right handers) slightly to the left rather. Your left foot should be placed to the side comfortably. Essentially, my idea is that your right foot should not be slightly to the right, it should be straight or slightly to the left.Try this and let me know if the elbow still falls. Thanks

To drop a couple of tablets or not to drop a couple, that's the main question.!

If one drops the elbow, how do they pick it up?

What if they forget it and lose it? Do most clubs have a lost and found for dropped elbows?

The elbow drops on a longer backswing and should only drop enough on delivery to keep the cue on the same plane. Anything else is excessive and leads to premature dropulation.

As long as your cue is moving in a straight line at the fraction of a second that you're in contact with the cue ball, you'll be alright. The it's not important to have a dead straight followthrough. You'll actually notice some of the very top pros bring the cue off line during theirs.

I don't think this elbow dropping will hurt your cueing. It's actually very natural unless you want a bruised chest from punching it so many times on hard shots.
