Haha! What a laugh that was. Played the singles match tonight. The guy I played was in the Staffs Masters tournament yesterday and got to the semi final. I got there first and the table at the venue was dire. Struggling to understand why the league would submit a venue of this poor standard of conditions. Table was yellowish, looking very unlooked after and terribly slow. I went 2-0 up and despite the poor conditions, it was a high standard. Quite a bit of tactical exchanges. I soon went 3-2 down. After clinching the 6th frame, it was down to a decider!
I played a tactical foul. Taking back control of the corner pocket, while leaving him glued to my remaining ball over the bag. He nominated one of my yellows to try and develop his 2 remaining reds and got it wrong. So I was able to clear down to the black. Straight black into the corner. I hit it with reasonable pace, only to see it hit the center of the pocket and then spit back out! Marvellous!!!
Can't understand why they would select such shocking venues for singles merits??? It's ridiculous. People quit snooker because of poor conditions...looks like pool is no different. Voting with my feet. That's it for me! No more pool...just Star tables!!!

So it really is a game of chance with rabbit pockets. We've got one of them in our pub and that has a speedcloth v. the nap cloth you encountered that makes life even harder. I'm guessing it wasn't level either? Pool is a joke really. Bump any of these tables and they move and shake; chipboard junk.

As for playing tactical fouls, don't get me started. Clever cheating an inherent part of a game? Goodness, may as well burn me bow tie. Give me old rules and one shot carry anyday.

Not much better for me.... I lost 21-20 lol I started off like a train then got bored. The breaks didn't split well for either of us so most of the games were drawn out and got very tactical.
I'll stick at the pool though I think I could get to a good level quite quickly with a bit of practice. Can't wait for the snooker season to start in a couple of weeks though

Were you playing The Sensation, Tom?

I'm surprised I've not had a 30 minute phone call

Yes mate lol we played at the Clarendon, the table was shocking. There were also chavs in there hitting the boxing machine as hard as they could and another group of chavs smashing up lampshades (genuinely). It got to the point where we were both laughing about what was going on in the room. It wouldn't have surprised me if a lion just casually strolled into the room it was that bizarre.

I have no doubt you'll get your phone call!

I know... I really must improve my skillset, losing 21-20 against a county pool player is terrible.

I hope the return is going to be snooker Tom, as he only just beat you at his own game. On the pool result it must be a coin toss who wins the snooker lol

We've played snooker before in the handicap singles, I won 2-1 giving away around 30 start a frame! It's strictly pool between us now but I do enjoy the change of game from time to time. I struggle to concentrate with it being so easy to pot balls which is no doubt my downfall, I take out ridiculous clearances but will mess up a more simple one through basically not trying.

I think pool is a good game though, it's just very different. I'm still trying to get used to the balls too, what is a stun shot at snooker plays completely different at pool with the size difference/weight of the balls being completely different so I did lose the cue ball a few times. It was quite fun feeling like Judd and being able to screw the ball the ball 12 foot round the table at times, there really is very limited technique required to get action on the tiny cue ball.

Exactly right... Cueing the ball for a stun run at snooker will not do the same thing on a pro cup set... However, with the old premiers it would.

                      Ruined the game.

Notice how he tells the truth? That's another snooker thing. If you'd told the story, we'd be hearing victory over a 147 player for 20k. You could anyways man up and play a 147 player off here. No, I'm not one but there are plenty to choose from to prove your fairy story. Nah, didn't think so pugwash.

Said to Tom, in a race to 21 he's still basically an even money shot to beat a county pool player. We both reckon race to 21 in snooker he'd be more like 1/250 to win. That's how big the difference in games is. Like comparing draughts and chess!
