The short story is ..........
This was a semi final of the "world one pocket championship " Even though it was very shoddy run affair
During the match Earl would go sit in another room while Shaw was at the table taking his turn (against rules but did anyway and was also "sharking" him (talking smack )
The rules state you have to nominate which ball you are going for . Earl nominated a ball but aimed up and potted another one (simply made a mistake in his nomination ) .Earl loses his turn and Shaw comes to table .
Later Earl nominates the 2 ball but aims up and cues the ten ball and pots it . Jayson Shaw jumps up and correctly tells him he nominated the twO ball . Earl realises his mistake and slams his cue around saying the ref never heard it !
The tournament director takes forever reviewing video replay and talking to refs etc
The tournament director declares that the video replay sound wasn't good enough to hear and that the ref didn't hear it either so allows Earl to continue his shot
Jayson approaches Earl to shake his hand and conceded because he is fuming that Earl lied instead of owning up
Earl refuses handshake and continues to play a shot
Jayson picks up two balls and throws them across the table and one leaves the table flying across the room .
Jayson calls Earl a cheat and says he won't deal with him again
Later Jayson post a video on his Facebook taken from the crowd which CLEARLY Earl calls the two ball but POINTS his cue at the 10 ball
Cue an Internet forum meltdown with people supporting both players
Good laugh ahaha

Getting down low will help with the top spin shot because of the angle of attack, generating CB reaction is all about cue speed and contact point, relaxed muscles help generate speed, ask any tennis player how to generate racket head speed they will say keep relaxed. Relaxed grip and forearm keep the cue on line, this is why many struggle with screw shots, they tense the grip and this raises the tip of the cue and they strike higher on the CB than they think, so they try more power and it exacerbates the problem. Longer bridge + longer back swing + longer stroke = more cue speed = more reaction.

It was a brain fart by earl, nothing more nothing less. No cheating, just a mistake. Everyone could see which ball was shooting, Shaw included. Lost a lot of respect for Shaw there.
The spirit of the law is far more important than the letter of the law imo. Those that take the rules to the enth degree are t*ssers.

Earl was acting like a dick all match (as per usual) .
So Shaw had every right to be playing the rules to his advantage .
Earl does this kind of stuff all the time
Team Shaw hahaha

Plus the other point is Earl denide calling the two ball even though he did .
You can see in his reaction that he know he made a mistake and the other video proves it
So no matter the outcome he still blatantly Lied .....very classless individual at the table

Ironically, if Earl didn't call at all, there would have been less, if any, fuss.
I understand as long as it's obvious which shot your shooting, then not calling, or even wrong calling won't be a foul.
The rule is there to prevent luck , flukes, call it what you like, you need to mean the pot you get.
The 2 ball was tucked up in the middle of a cluster of balls, so both knew the shot that was being attempted. imho.
That being the case, a number of wrongs built up to a perfect storm.
1 / If the first call of a foul for calling the wrong ball/shot, earlier in the match, was obvious, then it was wrong to call a foul there.
Even if it was, there was a good chance to explain why ( ref could say "due to playing the non-called shot, AND it not being obvious what shot
was being made, it's a foul" ), which may have helped later in the 2nd incident.
2 / Earl called the 2 ball, so should not have claimed otherwise, or that the ref didn't hear him. Just admit a brain fart and say the shot was obvious.
3 / Ref was sitting next to Jayson, but didn't hear the call ? He shouldn't be reffing again.
4 / Tournament director again have the opportunity to explain his decision better, but didn't. More detail about the obvious shot thing might have helped.
I don't think either player comes out of this well. . . . .

Earl has wound up Shaw from the get go. Shaw had reacted with a technical call and he's right. Earl lies about having a gaff. The refs make a mess of it. Shaw should get the foul and doesn't. Shaw should have let it pass but its not a normal circumstance. Shaw is right about Earl being an idiot. Strickland is poison. I don't understand why pool orgs don't ban players for this behaviour. Reyes doesn't need to do it. None should.
It wouldn't happen in snooker.Last edited by Big Splash!; 24 September 2016, 10:06 AM.

Earl is mentally ill, this is medically diagnosed and well known. He's a top fella when not under the pressure of being at the table.
Earl doesn't do anything wrong here imo. If he was sharking Shaw all match, that is irrelevant to this situation, and should have been dealt with earlier, by the referee. He called the wrong ball, that is all. Anyone in their fifties could make that mistake. If Shaw really thought he was playing a worldie on the two ball, he was on his own. He should have taken it like a man.
And wasn't the TD a mincing tit lol?
