  • Trying to cue in a straight line

First of all my english is not 100% so if any problem please tell me
So i play pool sometimes, i have a pool table to practice at my other house, maybe when i get a little better i will play snooker, but i have this problem i never noticed until some days ago, and it happens everytime i play a shot. Even if i do the movement really slowly it happens like naturally every time, i am right handed, and when i play the shot the cue at the end of the stroke goes right, and i play a little bit left handed as well and with the left hand the same thing happens ( but the cue goes left of course ). When i play the shot i do a long movement, with a big backswing and my hand finishes in my chest. i'm saying this because i have seen players that do a really small movement with their grip arm, but i believe in order to play screwback shots and such you need to have this big straight swing with you arm right?
I don't know if anybody had this problem, and i can't actually figure out right know why this happens, i noticed that if i bend my arm normally without the cue my hand kind of finish sideways (happens to everybody of course) when my arm is totally bent, which i think that might be what i need to fix, but yeah i'm having problem to find a stance or what i need to cue straight.
I will appreciate if anybody had that problem as well and could help me out.

Your hand may naturally go a little to the right when it hits your chest, as long as it goes through the ball straight it's OK.

It's the bit about if you bend your arm without the cue your hand finishes sideways, I'm not clear what that means. If I bend my arm my hand will stay the same way it was pointing before I bent it.

Perhaps get someone to film you and post a video for us to see?

Normally I would say stay away from pool table if you want to practise technique. But if you have no choice, there are drills which can be applied to table of any size.
You could always shoot over the spots, but if you really want a challenge, there is one drill called double kiss blue. It is very difficult and frustrating, have a look at Shaun Murphy having a go.

                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isBh...8Sw19i&index=7

Don't despair if you can't do this properly even on a much smaller table. All players have problems with straight cueing to some extent.
Having said all that, I wish I had done more work on straight cueing like in the video shown. But most players, myself included of course, are lazy sods who only practise things they enjoy.

                Edit:
check entire Shaun Murphy Youtube channel:

My friend, I agree with Itsnoteasy ,

You can bend your arm and still , keep your hand at the same place ( position ).

Unles you're refering to your bridge arm ? If you bend your bridge arm, then you gonna have to put your shoulder (body) abit more forward in order to keep your hand at the same place on the table.

As for your problem ( cue at the end of the stroke goes right ? ) : if that happens after striking the CB , it's no problem . imo.

                    Thanks for all replies
So i checked in the mirror and i don't know why but my hand indeed does not go straight, it kinda turns, i will try to post a video since you guys asked
I played also a little bit today and i stretched a little bit or i don't know what i actually did lol when i was playing the shots, but when i stretch it gets a little better (but i still don't feel it is 100%), i still think i just need to find one little detail or whatever that will make it go straight
About angles and all i believe i am already used to them all and when i fix this not cueing in a straight line thing my game will just improve absurdly seriously.

i would cue along the balk line like you would do in real time play, and from the back swing to all the way through the shot make sure your cue is not rotating. practice, do a vid and report back

I do this from time to time...also close your eyes on the follow through and see where the cue is..on line or off line

I will try tomorrow and if i am wrong i will try to post a video
I think the thing was my wrist rotating, and then i watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OKWHlTktik and what he says is exactly what happens to me
