I'm not superstitious, but this kind of thing either happens a lot, or we tend to notice it.
Two or more friends/club mates travel to a tournament together, perhaps even share an apartment or a hotel room, but get drawn to play each other in the first round.

I'm surprised they shared a lift on the way down as Maguire had to qualify and McGill didn't, I would have thought he would have gone down later.
