  • Delayed Spin ???

    Hi All,
I wonder if anybody could please explain "Delayed Spin" in an understandable way? I often hear commentators say "He (?) has used delayed spin to break the pack, off the black.. bla bla bla".
In my understanding the laws of physics are inoxerable, therefore do not accept orders or wishes. However, "Mr perfection Hendry" seems to do this a lot. The cue ball hits the pack, momentarily stops, then continues to spin like mad. I have not quite mastered the simple back spin yet and am worried about having to add this one to my tasks. What is "delayed spin"? How would that work? Somebody help me please?

i believe the cue ball was slightly off the table when they execute these power shots......could be purposely done using a slightly jack up cue...
the white hits the pack, and then the back spin take over.

delayed back spin is nothing but a simple deep screw shot played when u have an angle on a colour towards the bunch of reds. When u impart deep screw on the cue ball in such a situation the cueball goes into the pack with lots of backpin and it hits the reds and it spins back and opens up the reds.It is referred as 'delayed spin' bcoz when the cueball hits the red with a lot of backspin it stops for a fraction of second as it has collided with the reds but still some backspin remains on the cue ball after hitting the reds thus it spins back.

        Thanks Sunny,
Sounds reasonable. Just what I've been trying to do for some time now without results. I think they should have labeled this shot ' excess spin' instead. Have a video from 2005 Embassy Chanpsh where 'Mr Perfection Hendry' does this using 'top spin' from not more than 6 inches from the black and He still manages to impart that much spin, enough to dislodge half a dozen reds. Thanks again for your explanation, I'll keep trying it.
        cheers,

Ronnie o sullivan & Peter ebdon are the best at such kind of shots.Plz keep in mind that the cloth used in the professional tour is Miliken cloth[ Strachan 10]This cloth is very responsive towards screw & side.

although on a totally different table, and different sized balls etc, you may get an idea of applying spin by watching this
