...yes, agree, it can do, but I must admit I also enjoy the 'challenge' of playing against players who are better than me, especially if you play regularly as you can test your own ability.

solo - learn + improve technique

match - perform well under pressure due to good technique.

play more matches to experience the pressure to help in future matches

yes i like playing players who are better than me but in all honesty i don't have any nearby who are - there are a few who are close though and the challange becomes to stay ahead because boy do they love it when they turn you over!!

ok guys, when you practice i gather you put alot of emphasis on your technique..... however, when you play a match, how much thought do you put into your technique, or do you just concentrate on the angles and positional play and relaxing, and hope the technique drilled in solo practice just comes through?

If you need to think about your technique then you lose :snooker: you practice to get yourself into a routine, you are right that you hope the practice comes through into your match play, thats what we all want :snooker: and this is what the Pros do well.
And Ronnie in my mind is the only one who plays like he is practising while playing a match :snooker:
All the Pros make the game look easy while practising but Ronnie has that little extra which no coach nor Ronnie himself can put their finger on but its there.
It happens in all sports with people like Tiger Woods, Michael Shumacher and Roger Federer etc once in a while there is one who moves the given sport to greater heights. :snooker:

I like to see myself getting into a flow so I no longer need to think about my techique. It is when I play without really thinking that I play my best.
Practise is to make sure you can see the pattern when it comes up at the table so you can just react in a real match. About technique, you should have it in a groove if you have put in enough practise on your fundamentals, so you need not think too much about it.
I know it is easier said than done.
I totally agree Ronnie seem to play a real match like he is just practising, it is truly amazing to watch.

...yes, Ron is very good at making match play look as if he is practicing at his local club, or snooker hall, it's as if nobody else is there with him, just him and the table.

I think also that confidence plays a part in match play as well, which for me comes from knowing that I've practiced my technique regularly, put the hours in, and addressed any areas of concern.

And I don't think you should have to think about technique during a match, you do that in practice, together with the various scenarios that may come up in a match, and how you will react to them.

I tend to give time and focus to game strategy, how many shots I'm thinking ahead, positional play, and angles.

                  Lol......xx

hey, so do you find that you tend to play at a slower rhythm when practicing, so you can think about your technique, its just i find i play slightly quicker in a match because you dont have to think about your technique......
