well i have owned about 300 of them and for my money trevor or mike represent better value for money - don't get me wrong i have seen some stunning parris cues, really, truely as good as a cue gets, but i have also seen some stinkers, i have never seen a stinker by trevor or mike.

We all clearly have our own views here. Personally, I've never owned a Parris cue and still haven't visited the store but want to if only to see for myself. I cant afford to pay £440 even for a cue but ill have a look anyway.

there is nothing wrong with buying a parris cue - we have all done it - just don't believe the mythical hype that it will make your game better or that he is the best cue maker in the world or that 8/10 pros use his cues. in the end a cue is a cue whoever made it. if it suits you great if not look elsewhere. but really there is a lot of stories told about parris cues. It makes no difference to me what make of cue i sell, i am in the business of making a profit, and i can tell you 100% for sure i have sold parris cues for £200-£250 that are not as well made as craftsman cues i have sold for £100-£150.

Im 25 with a HB of 62. Ive had so many cues over the years. Now this is not intended to sound as if im some sort of quality player but i dont understand how some players say it takes them months to get used to a cue. Ive picked up my mates cue before for the first time in a league game when I hadnt got a cue and played some of the best snooker ive ever played and quite often ill pick up a cue ive never used before and it feels quite natural. I dont think that spending loads of £££ will improve my game and am quite happy to spend somewhere in the region of £75-£100.

the talent is in the player not the cue - its a simple as that.

I believe that too. Im regarded in my club as one of the most natural potters and generally natural in my understanding of the game (angles etc) but with a break of 62, which although shouldnt be sniffed at, should be higher I dont believe it is the cue. As a friend of mine once said if its straight its fine.

well he is not exactly right a good cue is a useful tool in your arsenal but a break of 62 is a medium player (no offence intended) and maybe if you find the right cue and get used to it bigger breaks will come.

None taken whatsoever. Ive been playing on average 3 times a week for about 5 years and my HB is 62 although that was only 2 weeks ago, surpassing a 49 some 2 years ago.

Ive had hundreds of 30's-40's but do you honestly think ADR 147 if i did get a decent cue (Not necessarily Parris) provided I put in the practice could improve my general play?

                            Dear Ste Bed

                            The answer is NO.

I do not work for John Parris like I said many times in my two previous posts.

I just do not like to see a forum were thousands of members are misleaded with the intention of either making profit or simply to damage the reputation of JP cues (leading cue maker).

There is NO myth about the fact that the pros prefer him.
It is a known fact that all the big names in the game are using OR have used at one stage a JP cue.
It is as simple as that.
If one would like to look into how many pros have worked with John Parris just visit his website and look at all these photos, you will be amazed.

It is not nice to see people who are doing business to do it in an unfair way.
There are limits to competition and there are ethics.
I understand people would like to sell their cues through the web BUT you can’t just post allegations without backing it up.

I have already quoted a publication from “the telegraph” one of the most reputable sources in the UK to prove Stephen Hendry 7 times World’s has worked with John Parris.
But everybody seems to know that the “big four” have all AT SOME STAGE worked with John Parris.
Anyone who argues with that must believe that there is some kind of conspiracy between Stephen Hendry, John Parris, and the rest of the world……
Do keep in mind that even if John Parris pays money to the pros to advertise his cues or give them free cues:
                            1. They don’t need the money as the top 5 have already millions in the Bank.
                            2. They would not use the cues if they were of bad quality, because the cues are essential for their job. Simple as that
I believe that John Parris has a good relationship with the pros and even gives the cues for free (or even advertisement bonus).
There is nothing wrong with that as it is FAIR competition.

If JP was to go out in the forums and write nonsense like:
“X maker’s cues are of bad quality…the service is ***….etc ….etc” how would that look?

My job isn’t to monitor when Stephen or Mathew changes his cue, so in case certain pros changed their cue from Jonh Parris to Kevin Muncaster’s (Higgins) I will not argue with that as that wasn’t my point.

Everybody needs a change at some point in his career for different reasons, even psychological, it all depends on service, support, value, feel etc.
Also keep in mind that the pros tend to be quite fussy when it comes to minor adjustments with their cues….quite often I must say.

Also 440 pounds is the most expensive cue you can buy in his store. There are others which are cheaper obviously.
On the other hand a very expensive cue will last a lifetime and there is also good support and service.
I couldn’t agree more on the fact that you can save loads of money in expensive cues and visit Del.

I am not suggesting anything, once again my respect goes to all makers.

At the end of the day when you are trying to damage one's reputation you only end up advertising him.

                            With regard to RocketRoy1983

Advice: go for a cheaper cue, spend money in coaching and then, a year later, decide between one of the best makers and order a cue from him with your specs....i.e. height, weight, balance, butt diameter, tapering, ferrule, wood, decoration etc etc.
A hand made cue...made to meaure from ANY maker will cost money so be prepared.

The truth is that you have to pay a lot more than 440 for an Ultimate..
You need 440 plus Vat = 517pounds for a plain black cue without any extension joint..
You have to pay 17 more pounds for the sd joint plus 25 for a single facing splice with a single veneer..
So a nice ultimate costs 560 pounds and if you want four secondary splicing the cost is a bit more...

So in my opinion Parris cues are a bit overpriced..
I accept that they are very top quality but you can get a Trevor White cue of similar quality for about 300-350 pounds...

I have tried out around 10-12 cues in 10 yrs of playing this game from cuemakers like Parris,Woolridge,Peradon,Craftsman,O min.But I keep on coming back to my Master professional 3/4 cue which I bought 7 yrs ago.I have made 16 centuries and 14 of them I have made with my master cue.I have never felt comfortable with any other cue so I have finally settled with it and I am playing really well.
