It is a myth that JP gives professionals cues. He has offered to make replica cues for some players down the years, those that have had success but to suggest that any pro can just ask for a cue and JP will give them one for free is total fallacy.

Not saying that it hasn't happened in the distant past but JP doesn't need to enhance his reputation, he's already well known. Bit different back in the 80's and 90's where it would make business sense to try and get a few pro's using his cues but when the world number 1 and world champion is using your cue I don't think you need any higher endorsement for the quality of your product.

i am sorry but for 100% sure he has given pros cues that have then given them to me to sell on their behalf.

Marketing is constant and I think Parris will still want as many pros to own the cues as pos. I think there's still incentive to give away cues.
I don't think there's anything bad in it but certainly this has mislead people. How many times do people on here state 'so and so uses a Parris' before one of us sad cue geeks put's them right.
Ronnie and Steve D do plug him quite a bit but Steve went back to his old cue (I know John fixed it for him) and Ronnie liked his Parris so much he gave it away!

As for numbers of players using his cues, interestingly just looking at the provisional top 32 list, no fewer than 9-10 players use Parris cues, maybe a few questions about what Dale is currently using but that is higher than any other individual cue maker which however way you look at it is impressive and speaks for itself. Just because Parris claimed that 8 out of 10 players used his cues people still bring this up but it was probably true at one point so why shouldn't he use that as a marketing tool? I'm sure any of you with a business would 'big up' your reputation if it meant increasing your sales potential.

Call John ask what????
Who the top 32 are who use his cues. It would take too long to clarify we mean currently using from owning, having worked on or having looked at. That's assuming John knows himself.
There isn't a national register for cue over here. If there was Dominic Dale would have filled it.
Hearsay and conjecture!!!!
Dead thread?
This is banter you must not have this in Canada.
Nice try though!

Anyway the 10 based on provisional rankings are - Ronnie, Maguire, Allen, Hawkins, Williams (unconfirmed but was mentioned at the time of his cue change), Walden, Dale (as already mentioned), O'Brien, Bond, Lee.
Of course I'm sure someone will disagree but as its near impossible to accurately know as players do change frequently. Either way its still a guaranteed 8 which is still well above any other individual cue maker.
As the last poster mentioned though, the thread is becoming a bit tedious now.

And if John himself doesn't put out that info... maybe we should get all the top 32 together for a photo shoot.
Ostensibly.
Then we could get them to stand and deliver their cues for inspection and each give us a brief personal history of their own tools.
Collectors and others would be fascinated... right, Mike and Andrew?
=o)

I heard that ROS had a half jointed cue made by JP because he wanted to ride his motorcycle to his tournaments, then gave it away. He then had also a 3/4 jointed one, which he also gave away (is that the one he gave to the kid?)--but he seemed to be happy with the one piece.
If ROS does not like his JP, I am sure there will be someone else more than willing to get his endorsement.
A cue is a means for a pro to earn a living, it is very important. I cannot imagine a pro using a cue unless he likes it.
It would be a different story if the cue the pro uses is different from the one the public will get. I am not sure what the situation is with JP.

ROS 2 piece was bought buy ADR147, I was after it myself.
I'm sure John would give a pro a choice of cues made to the desired spec. That certainly happened with ROS.
And I don't think anybody is really claiming that Parris cues are no good. It's just some of us feel they are overpriced and you see the odd dud because they make lots of cues now.
Officially Ronnie endorses BCE and we all no how good they are!
Dominic Dale certainly has used Parris in the past but I think played his best with one of the Trevor Whites he had.
Maguire owns both Parris and Trevor White not sure what he uses. Could be the Parris.
I thought Williams had a Parris, He asked Trevor about a cue and Trev forgot to get back to him. So he got a Parris!
Alright I'm also up for leaving this too!
Hate long threads!
