  • How to play power follow?

Like to ask all the members here how do you play your power follow shots?
Do you have to raise your back hand a bit higher to keep your cue level, or do you shot upward on the cue ball?

    Any special technique?

    Thank you.

cue level. let the cue do the work. don't 'over-grip' the butt. difficult to explain but when you play it right, you 'feel' it.

and of course, raise your bridge so that as Mike says, the cue is level ... I'm not trying to teach the much better players than me on this forum to suck eggs ...

but for newbies on this forum, the easy way to raise your bridge is to set it as normal and then pull the tips of your fingers back an inch or two ... your knuckles will rise ...

        Thank you.

Feel from time to time that the tip almost slide off the cue ball, rather than gripping it. So, the cue ball go off line from time to time. When i try to really smooth the cue into the ball, just pretend that the cue ball was merely in the way of my stroke, I got better result--but still, not often enough.

I am using a tip almost right at 9mm, not sure if it is because it is too small.

I am mostly having trouble with a shot like this: In the early part of a frame, a red is about level with the pink, black is tied up, pink goes no where, the cue ball is below baulk but not close to the cushion--I want to go for the pot on this red, which is just a bit off straight, and to go off the bottom cushion for the blue or the baulk color, with quite a bit of follow, sort of a shot to nothing.

Someone told me I should try to keep my grip at the same level, just raise the bridge hand so I will be shooting a bit upward on the cue ball.

May be I am gripping the cue too tight or something, not sure why, just very frustrated. I will put in some hours on this shot with a lighter grip to see.

How high do you hit the ball, 1/4 down, 1/8 down from the top of the ball...?

irrelevant. no problem getting same top as bigger tip.

i wouldn't talk to them again if i were you

as level as possible is what you want. same with all shots.

yes, lift the bridge up, but you should pretty much find this brings your cue close to level, not pointing upwards.

same applies to screw shots. lower the bridge as low possible, trying to keep the cue as level as possible.

i've said it before and i'll say it again. grip is EVERYTHING.

it should be loose with NO 'snatching'.

one day, you will play this shot right, and you will 'feel' the difference.

it is very hard to describe or explain, but believe me, when you hit the ball right for the first time, it's an almost spiritual experience...

          praise the lord...

          there is no definitive answer.

as high as possible without miscueing. people who cue the ball better can hit higher without miscueing.

          it just depends on you....

what you are asking cannot be explained easily. it needs to be shown. but even then, it is extremely difficult to combine all the elements to make the 'right' cue action/grip etc.

i know you want an answer but it really is 'all in the technique'. the basis of which is explained above.

You did a fine job explaining that Mike! Well done! Once you "feel it" you'll never forget how... right on!

... now I'm gripping just enough to have control and not veer off line, I have a stable triangle stance, balancing on my tiptoes... looking straight ahead to where I want it to go... if someone would kindly give me a little push...

keep the cue smooth and level and learn to time the shot well - easier to say that do!
