STRAIGHT CUEING
I train as much as I can, but still manage to play like a w@nker more often than not. This is completely disheartening.
For months I thought my aim was dodgy, inconsistent at best. But recently, after much self analysis, I have discovered it's my cueing. (possibly aim as well )
Anyway, back to the point. I have discovered that shots between straight and just less than half ball, I pot to an acceptable level. I think this is to do with the fact that the line of cueing is inside the object ball as I sight it. HOWEVER, for shots than involve a higher degree of cut, namely where the cue is aiming at thin air alongside the object ball. My brain finds it very hard to believe I have selected the right angle. Therefore at the crucial moment as I am playing between pause and strike, my cue will veer off line as my brain tries to "correct" the angle mid shot. Therefore I generally over cut the shot.
If I focus on the contact point of the object ball, I find my cue will veer towards the eye line position on the object ball, leading to too thick of a contact!!
This is so annoying, as just when I finally though I might be improving, I have realised I cant cue straight.
Well, the problem is I know I can cue straight! I have no problem with straight shots over varying lengths, and can hit the cue ball up and down the table etc. It's the cut angle that causes the problem. It creates an illusion that my aim is wrong and my cuing goes all astray!! A classic example is not coming far enough down the table for the pink, then having to cut it back into one of the black pockets. I am terrible at this shot and get it probably less than 1 in 10 times.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?
