If you follow through with no extra acceleration except when striking it should not drop.

OK, I am going to ask you, why do you want it to stop dropping?

Is it giving you some sort of problem?

How do you know it's a problem?

          What solution do you want?

How will your game improve when you have this solution? How do you know?

when I'm near a cushion my cue seems to hit the cushion making my cue slid upwards.
Also I think I give me more concistancy.

Surely if the elbow drops its because your shoulder moves down, isn't that the body physics (used to be a fitness consultant/gym instructor)? Sorry to question this, as it is said the shoulder shouldn't move during a shot.
I think what people mean is by moving your elbow forwards whilst keeping your shoulder in the same position ... so as well as the normal "pendulum" of the forearm, you straighten your whole arm a bit ... your shoulder is in the same place but your elbow has dropped since the top bit of your arm is now a bit more vertical than it was at the start of the shot ...

I can't say I fancy that personally (I'm bad enough as it is lol) but you certainly do see Ronnie (and others) doing it ...

surely cueing when the white is near a cushion is a different issue ... my golden advice here is to shorten your grip - for "hand on the baize" shots, I grip my cue pretty much at the end, if the white ball is close to the cushion, I try to remember to bring my grip say 4 to 6 inches up from the end of the butt ... seems to make a huge difference to me!

Your cueing arm forearm (right for right handers) should be vertical on all shots. In other words, pointing down your right leg if your stance is correct. Slide your hand up the butt of the cue as others have mentioned.

If you feel the cushion rubber is preventing a follow through of the cue on cushion shots, then slightly raise the gap between the cue and cushion. It is difficult to explain through words.

The arm should move only from the elbow, otherwise you are putting your shoulder into the shot.
Look at Ray Reardon and Joe Swail for examples, if either of them played from the shoulder then they would be playing across the ball.
Those who drop their elbow do so only after the ball has been struck, especially noticeable when playing power shots.
I suppose if you have perfectly straight alignment you could get away with it, but most of us don't .
