very good question Anthoiny ... I'll have a go at answering it although I will be wrong (just trying to start a discussion) ...

    (a) ghost ball - put a ghost ball as if it is a plant then try to hit the "ghost" ball ...

    (b) point on the obhect ball ... choose the point on the object ball you want to hit, let your brain do the work - your (or my) brain will eventually work it out if your (or my) brain missed enough ...

    (c) aim and pivot ... don't understand that at all ... maybe someone could explain that to me ... thanks!

all of it lol I find when I do my aiming when I'm stud up example; 3/4 ball , 1/2 ball then go down on the shot I don't think about the aiming when I'm down that my potting and cue action is alot better.

When I think about the pot when I'm down on the shot I seem to miss alot I think that my brain is over thinking.

Different methods for long potting short mid range. It wrecked my game and if I have a bad day I am allways changing how I sight etc.,

Now I cant stop doing it...My advice to anyone is practice learn to know all the shots, build up your muscle memory with a natural cue action and play from memory, dont start analysing...find the line of the shot when you are up get down and pot it. Dont think too much...especially when down on the shot!

                  analising can be paralising.:snooker:
Lately there were many threads posts regarding to aiming and potting. I think this post is the most accurate and simple answer. the game is too hard and you have to make it simple for yourself based on the line of aim combined with your natural game and your muscle memory . very very good point
1lawyer. I had the same scenario as you and went back to what you have mentioned - my good potting is back! always when I try to analyze I miss, most of the time I focus on the line of the shot when i am up and just play natural when i am down, I pot! simple as that!

I once met a former Embassy world champion who told me he looked at the white ball when shooting short, straight, or just off straight pots, like blacks off the spot into the to top pockets. He said this allowed him to focus on only one thing, where the tip struck the white, and it was only looking at the object ball that sometimes threw him off on these short pots. He went on to say you'd never see this in a book or anything since it is usually considered "wrong" to sight a shot this way, but for him, it worked. I only share this story because I think it shows that there are more ways to sight the shots that we sometimes think, and even professionals vary in how they go about it.

I think one thing to ask yourself when your considering sighting is . . . "how straight is my action?". Because you can have perfect sighting but fail to cue properly, and you could have a perfect stroke but fail to sight the shot correctly, either way means failure almost every time.

Thanks thats sounds right to me I will give it a try.
In the Steve Davis video he said about the ghost ball method you should practice them ontil it's 2nd natraul (spelling?) what does he mean by that?
Also I find it hard to imagine the ghost ball on the obect ball when I'm down on the shot any tips for this please.

                            you really helped mate.
the "secret" is: technical in practice - natural in match.

Hi have noticed a big change in my snooker for the better,
I have been doing my aiming while stood up then get down correctly then just concentrate on my cue action then I seem to pot better.
