  • Junior sponsorship advice

    Hi,

I am considering approaching local businesses with regard to getting some sponsorship for my 13 year old son - things are starting to get a bit on the expensive side, and I can only see it getting more so!

I would be really grateful if anyone can offer any advice with regard to this. I have a fair idea how to sell the idea to them, but don't have a clue what it would be realistic to ask them for.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Leanne

Where are you based and what competitions does your son play in?

Over the years, we have had many players at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club who have received sponsorship.

Somewhere between £300 and £500 is pretty common. But if your son is a bit of a superstar, he may be able to command more.

It’s important to show a potential sponsor all his newspaper cuttings so they can see the coverage they would expect.

Local small to medium sized businesses are the best to approach. Even better if the business is run by a family member or a friend.

If you want any other advice, e-mail or ring me. My contact details are on my website, see link below.

My advice would be pull towards the lower end rather than top end of a cash idea, I'm sure you would agree and appreciate any kind of help from a sponsor would be fantastic.
If a sponsor would accommodate entry fee's and fuel to get to events they may buy it but when you try and chase accommodation and other things on top it starts to get too much.
Pull up a CV about the player what he/she has achieved any paper cuts anything to make this player shine give them everything but be warned sponsorship is like rocking horse s**t these days so don't get disheartened of allot of turn downs and hopefully someone will be interested.

Very best of luck and it would be nice to hear if you achieved this so keep us posted

        Thanks both for the advice.

We are in South Wales. This year he's done the Welsh International qualifiers, Pontins Star of the Future and just got back from Home Internationals plus a few more tournaments. He finished the season number 1 in his age group for Wales.

I'm not looking for a fortune, just a litle bit of help would be great. Tyler's doing really well for his age as far as I think (mum's bias aside). I'm thinking ahead a bit too, he is starting to think about entering PTC's etc to gain experience which is good as he seems really motivated by the season he's just had. At 13 I know there's a long way to go, but while he's putting the work in I want to help all I can, and although I'm happy to keep on spending i can see a point in the future where it's going to get tight. Entry fees and a little bit towards travel would be great, so that's what I'll keep in mind. I don't want to seem greedy, I'm not, and I'm sure lots of parents have/do feel the same.

I do have a local business in mind, so I think I may approach them initially. I'll let you know how I get on.

        Any more advice greatly received!

        Leanne
