BACK-to-back victories have installed Joe O’Connor as favourite to win this season’s EASB Premier Junior Tour.
But the 19-year-old from Leicester was forced to battle all the way in the second leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.
Following his success in the first event in Leeds in September, O’Connor won five of his eight matches in South London by 3-2 scorelines.
The teenager, who finished last season in third place, pocketed £350 after accounting for Callum Costello 4-1 in an all-Leicester final.
Five centuries were recorded by the country’s top young players.
Josh Thomond (Manchester) made a 117 in a 4-3 semi-final defeat by Costello but had the consolation of snatching the high-break prize of £40 from his opponent, who had earlier recorded two tons – 105 and 101 – in his 4-2 last-16 win over Rich Haney (Dudley).
In the same round, Brandon Sargeant (Stoke) also hit three figures with a 104 in his 4-2 defeat by Will Lemons (Sheffield). Ashley Carty (Rotherham) compiled a 103 in the group stages.
The third leg of six is at Cueball Derby on the weekend of December 19-20.
