FOUR young snooker players from Westbury have retained the Cuestars Junior Section Team Challenge trophy.
Jake White, Daniel Tallentire, Daniel Winfield and Gary Wilkins disposed of their title rivals from Swindon in a must-win quarter-final clash that clinched first place at the sixth and final event of the South of England series.
Westbury A’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Jesters A at The Academy, Eastleigh, earned the awesome foursome £200.
Team spokesman Tallentire said: “We were really pumped up. We wanted to win it.”
And the 17-year-old added: “We’ll see if we can do the same next year and keep doing it.”
Steve White, who runs the junior section at Player’s in Westbury, said the lads did a “fantastic” job of retaining the title in what could be the last ever team challenge in its current format.
“What a way to win the title!” he declared.
“It was a shame the boys let their guard down to lose to Jesters B in the semi-final. They felt the job was done and relaxed. It would have been nice to win the title with a final victory.”
Snooker players of any standard, up to the age of 21, can join the Cuestars Junior Section at Player’s on the West Wilts Trading Estate, Westbury. Coaching and competitions take place every Saturday from 10am to 12.30pm.
Players from outside of the Westbury area can call Cuestars director John Hunter on 07795 257727. John will happily direct you to your nearest Saturday morning club.
