  • Ton-up kid Winbourne celebrates Gold Tour success

A SECOND career century by 14-year-old sensation Jordan Winbourne dispelled any lingering doubts about the outcome of the inaugural Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour.

The Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club teenage amassed his highest break of 105 against Daniel Woods in the group stages of the seventh and final event at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Landing straight on the black on 98, he rolled it in rather than attempting a complicated positional shot to get on the final red which was near the brown.

Winbourne needed to reach the knockout to make it mathematically certain of leading the rankings into the eight-man play-off in front of world No 26 Matthew Stevens at the Cuestars finals day in Swindon on June 6.

After sailing through four group matches without dropping a frame, he disposed of John Smith (The Academy, Eastleigh) 3-0 and Ollie Tydeman (Woolston Cons) 3-1 in the final.

Winbourne, who chalked up seven other breaks of more than 40, has reached the final in five of the six tournaments he has competed in and won three.

In the second semi, Tydeman saw off Daniel Tallentire (Westbury) 3-0.

Top eight who qualify for the play-off: Jordan Winbourne (C/Ford) 114 pts; Lee Roling (The Academy, Eastleigh) 77; Kevin Impett (C/Ford) 69; Ben Tanner (The Academy, Eastleigh) 61; Daniel Tallentire (Player’s, Westbury) 58; Ollie Tydeman (Woolston Cons) 55; Daniel Woods (C/Ford) 46; James Bolton (Salisbury) 32.

    BREAKS

    Jordan Winbourne: 105, 64, 55, 53, 50, 47, 46, 44

Burnet clinches Silver by one point

EASTLEIGH’S Liam Burnet took first place by just one point on a dramatic final leg of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour.

Lee Warner, from Gosport, needed to better Burnet’s performance at the final event in Salisbury.

    Both players reached the semi-finals.

However, while left-hander Burnet was losing 3-1 to Chandler’s Ford’s Bouwe Bosma, news filtered across the club that Warner had been beaten 3-1 by Bradley Chappell (Bournemouth).

Burnet finished on 95 points and Warner on 94.

The 15-year-old hit the front after winning the Swindon tournament last month.

Chappell, who beat Bosma, 14, 3-0 in the final, climbed to third place.

One-time favourite Lee Bell (Sholing) beat Burnet 2-0 in the group stages but failed to qualify for the knockout.

Top eight who qualify for the play-off: Liam Burnet (The Academy, Eastleigh) 95 pts; Lee Warner (Stoke SC, Gosport) 94; Bradley Chappell (Green Baize, Bournemouth) 91; Lee Bell (The Academy, Eastleigh) 81; Daniel Winfield (Player’s, Westbury) 67; Sam Jefferson (Jesters, Swindon) 48; Thyas Evans (Player’s, Westbury) 39; Bouwe Bosma (C/Ford) 36.
