MARK Lloyd successfully negotiated the hazards of the car park at the Greenbaize Snooker Club in Bournemouth clutching yet another winner’s trophy.
The Gosport teenager vowed to be more careful this time after claiming the third leg of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour.
Following a 3-2 victory over home player Brad Chappell in the corresponding event last season, Lloyd fell over in the car park and damaged his silverware.
“It’s a bit bent,” he admitted.
The 15-year-old, based at Stoke Snooker Club, defeated Chappell 3-0 in their latest encounter to pocket £50 prize money.
“We both weren’t playing too well,” he said. “It wasn’t the best of finals. We’ve had better matches.”
The sharp-shooting pair shared the rankings title in 2013/14. Chappell leads this season by three points from Anthony Rice (Salisbury SC) and Lloyd in joint second.
Playing on the national stage has sharpened Lloyd’s game. He is already up to 24th in his debut season on the EASB Premier Junior Tour, which is restricted to the best 49 under-21s in the country. And he has qualified for the last-16 of the English Under-16 Championship.
That class told in Bournemouth as Lloyd dropped only one frame out of 14 all day, to Sam Storey (Thatcham SC) in the last-eight. In the semi-finals, he accounted for Jonny Mutch (Cambridge SC), who has also booked a place in the next stage of the national under-16 championship.
It was the first time that Mutch had progressed past the group stages.
Chappell beat leg-two winner Rice in the second semi.
The fourth leg of eight is at Woking Snooker Centre on Sunday, January 4.

Cox steers James to victory
A WOKING teenager reckons his new coach gave him the edge to claim a first winner’s trophy on a regional snooker tour.
Edward James said working with Brian Cox for a month had been “a real help”.
The 13-year-old, appearing in only his third event on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour since gaining promotion, defeated Joe Kitchen (Stoke SC, Gosport) 2-0 in the final at Greenbaize Snooker Club, Bournemouth.
“It’s a great win,” he declared. “I played really well.
“I didn’t expect it. There’s loads of good players on the tour.”
Kitchen rattled the pink in the first frame and left a golden opportunity for James to snap up the easy chance and the black, which was also over a pocket.
“Joe was really unlucky,” admitted James. “He left a few over the pockets and didn’t really recover from that in the second frame.”
Remarkably, James dropped only one frame out of 12, to Abhay Chopra (Chandler’s Ford SC) in the group stages.
First-time finalist Kitchen, 14 - who is sponsored by Censebam, a coaching and mentoring firm - accounted for his club-mate Matt Gillon in the last-eight and Gloucester potter Lewis Parnham in the semi-finals.
James defeated last month’s runner-up Reece King (Greenbaize, Bournemouth) to reach his first final.
Callum McDonald (Salisbury SC) leads the rankings.

Hubba Bubba Kid II
BRISTOL ten-year-old Aidan Murphy admitted it was “hard work” breaking the back of his opponent in their second successive final clash on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour.
The Hubba Bubba Kid, who chews bubblegum during his matches, fought back from 1-0 down to see off Steven Hughes 2-1 in the third leg at the Greenbaize Snooker Club in Bournemouth.
Murphy left the Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club teenager chasing snookers on the colours in the second frame and cleared the colours in the decider after Hughes wobbled the green.
In Swindon last month, Murphy beat Hughes 2-0 in the final but lost to the 13-year-old in the group stages in Bournemouth.
Despite insisting that competing on the junior tour is “pretty hard”, Murphy, who is based at Bristol Conservative Club, is now the overall rankings leader. Hughes has now lost all three finals this season and is eight points adrift in second.
Five days before his ninth birthday, Oliver Sykes (Chandler’s Ford SC) won all four group matches to qualify for the knockout for the first time in his debut season.
Chloe White (Copnor SC, Portsmouth), the only girl among the 47-strong field for the three tournaments, won her group on her Cuestars debut before going out to Murphy in the last-eight.
Her brother Callum went one step further, losing to Hughes in the semis after surviving a three-way play-off in his group.
The fourth leg of eight is at Woking Snooker Centre on Sunday, January 4.

Moore the merrier
RIKKI Moore collected the Plate trophy at the Greenbaize Snooker Club, Bournemouth, where he has been a member for 11 years.
The 21-year-old, in his last season on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour, failed to qualify from his round-robin group but prevailed in the consolation competition.
Moore compiled a 45 break in the one-frame final against Callum Browne (Player’s, Westbury).
A total of 47 players competed in the Gold, Silver and Bronze legs at the newly refurbished club. Now down to ten tables, the club has added a separate area for darts and pool. Three of the snooker tables have high, TV-style lighting.
Cuestars is considering eliminating groups of three when there are fewer than 16 entries in a particular category. Where tables are not a limiting factor, three groups of four or five will be trialled. Eight will still progress to the quarter-finals.
