  • Hi All / Entry Level Cue

    Hi all,
I’m Alex based in Reading. Very glad I found this forum similar to the cricket enthusiasts one I also use.
Loved weekly snooker and beer as a student donkeys years ago and this year I found it as a good excuse to get an old boy out the house as he’s lost his confidence in lockdown. We both miss the easy and pot the impossible but for an 80 year old I think he’s doing brilliantly and we love it. And I’ve made some friends at the club so I could pop in on my own. Looking forward to reading all your snooker tips on here.

Which leads me to any tips on buying an entry level priced 3/4 joint cue (60GBP) ??
My research has graduated me from Argos to John Parrott shop to this forum as no shops with any proper cues in my area! So the Wild West of online shopping is my only option. I’m assuming my budget money would be very safe with Green Baize or Cue Craft? But am I missing another obvious trustworthy cue/website for £50-£60?
    Huge Thanks in advance

    Hello,

I'm Chris, from Southampton. I joined TSF last week. Plenty of good posts to read I have found. Very commendable for helping that chap, high fives to that! ☺ Like you, I had a long break from Snooker and am now looking to get back into it, I've been looking at cues and also hoping to find somebody reliable to play with. www.snookercrazy.com has a good selection of cues and he is a really helpful chap. For the price range you suggest there is always the option of second hand (Gumtree produces sometimes and you can handle and examine them before you buy) Argos do a reasonable selection of cues, I was looking at the 3/4 Mark Selby, but I need at least 58 inch. https://www.argos.co.uk/browse/sport...-cues/c:30583/
Cuepower is another good website, and Premium Cues. Both of these have good reviews on Trust Pilot, which will also influence my pending purchase. Hope that helps you.

    My best,
    Chris.

          Cheers for the advice Chris,
I’m sure if you linger around in your snooker club long enough you’ll meet a few other lonesome regulars like I did.
everyone seems so supportive and friendly in snooker halls.
I’d be bit weary of Argos for a cue though buddy, judging by the lacquered type ‘Jimmy White’ etc cues the club has I reckon you’d get more for your pound with an independent if possible. And I keep seeing the same Canon and Britannia cues for £50 everywhere, which also rings alarm bells.
I have checked out snookercrazy before and all good.
I think Green Baize pips it for me as he’s got weights etc on the website (not that I’d know which weight to get but middle ground will do me).
love the thought of getting a bargain cue made to basic spec with cue craft, but 8 weeks delivery is a bit of a dampener as it’s 8 more weeks of sticky, tired club cues. 😩

Does green baize do snooker cues for fifty pounds? I didn't see any last time I was in there.

Just saw one vintage cue for sale, its snooker spec. Thought you might like it. You need to be a member of that group to view more pics of the cue and contact the owner I guess.

Green baize as said earlier or Cue sports Yorshire. Their starter cues are about 50 quid.

They stock cheap Chinese cues for £60, or £100 with a case an extension. Look similar to the ones that come up on ebay and amazon, but I presume Stu's checked them over.

These are great for the money, cue only is 68 pounds but for a 85 you get a decent case and mini butt as well. Can't go wrong. https://www.woodscues.com/collection...39623621050448

Yep great value. I’ve got one of the blue aluminium cases. Love it. Delivery was very quick but that was before Brexit and COVID so don’t know what things are like now. Suez Canal open again though lol.
