  • For people who are looking to take up playing snooker...(North Hants)

    Hello everyone

I stopped playing snooker for a few years after moving away from my mates. A couple of months ago I decided to start practicing solo and see where it takes me. If this is something you are also considering, I would strongly urge you to do the same as my experience has been positive.
I was a bit out of my comfort zone but made the effort of speaking to people at the clubs I have been going to which has led to me to meet new people who equally love Snooker. It amazed me how many other people were doing the same as me in playing on their own to try and improve their game.
I have played the odd match against people that I have met and have played in a couple of tournaments. The only thing that I am missing now is playing with someone who is of a similar ability to me. My highest break is 37. My game is steadily improving and I am achieving the odd 20+ break when playing in matches. In the last couple of months I have scored a few 40-50 breaks with good positional play, when playing on my own.
I am from the North Hants area if anyone ever fancies meeting up for a best of 7 or 9. There are few clubs that are a maximum of half an hour away. Please message me if you're interested.

Hi Paul, I'm in North Hants too (Basingstoke) and haven't played regularly for about 25 years but have been thinking about getting back into it. I've been mulling over trying out some of the local clubs but haven't taken the plunge yet. It sounds like you'll be quite a bit ahead of me in terms of play, but I would be up for some knockabouts & practice. (My highest break is 30 which I achieved in 1985!)

Which club(s) do you play at? Have you tried The Academy?

    Cheers,
    Frank J.

Well done gents it's a lovely game to take up again when life changes and gives you more time etc. I found joining local social clubs with tables very beneficial, you start getting a few numbers from people who you play and in my case before we knew it we had a WhatsApp group with over 20 players of all standards that you can message and say I'm free for a game and get a partner. Handicap comps etc follow and are good fun for all. Good luck.
