  • G'day from Melbourne, Australia

Hi all, I picked up the game of snooker in the mid 80s in high school years in Singapore. Was never really good at it, no training of any sort available except for a Ray Reardon Instructional video and a Jimmy White Snooker Masterclass book. Went on to University in Australia and totally lost touch with snooker (the popular game here being pool played on a much smaller table and bigger pockets). My first cue was a Riley bought in Singapore and shortly after I got a BCE mature ash with Alex Higgins signature. Broke that cue in 1995 and because there were no cue repairers, it eventually went to the bin.
Thinking of picking it up again after watching snooker tourneys on cable TV but I have problems trying to source a decent cue stick here in Australia. Anyone know where I can get a decent cue in Australia?

An American cuemaker named Dennis Dieckman makes this recommendation on his site:

"If you want [a snooker cue] contact my students and friends, David Hunter and Megan Elam, of MAD INDUSTRIES in AUSTRALIA and they will make you quite a nice snooker cue."

That's from http://www.cuemaker.com/whatizzsnooker.htm. Dieckman has an excellent reputation and is perhaps best known for his carom and masse cues.

However, this is a long shot since that page on Dieckman's site is old and the email link may be defunct. The last time I tried to find Mad Industries in Australia I had no luck. Perhaps you'll be more fortunate.

Peter Hanley. He has got a website if you just google his name.

A lot of the blokes at my club have his cues and they are quality. Cost about 1000 dollars though.

After talking to a lot of English cue makers, it appears to be. Although there isn't all that many cue makers here in Australia.
