  • Hi from California.

I have recently joined the forum, because in the near future, I'm hoping to purchase a full size snooker table to install in my home in California. It has been many years since my youth, when I used to play on such tables in the local halls of my native New Zealand, and for some time now, it has been my dream to have a table in my house. Now that I'm retired, I'm planing on making that dream a reality, and am currently in the finishing stages of building a room to accomodate it.

Unfortunately there is a dreath of information and table availability here in the US. From my online research, I've come to the conclusion that I need to go to the motherlode, (UK), to make my purchase. That presents some problems, not the least of which will be the transportation cost. Also I hate the idea of making such a major purchase without being able to 'kick the tires', but short of a trip to the UK, (which isn't in my plans), that's the way it will have to be. Anyway, I'm hoping to take advantage of the accumulated experience and wisdom on this forum, to hopefully get some answers to some of the questions that I have, which I'll post in the Questions forum.

Look forward to conversing with some of the forum members.
    Kevin.

      Hi Kevin,

I'd like to welcome you to the forum. And propose you should speak to some of our Canadian members about your table wishes. They will maybe able to suggest a cheaper route than over England.

Thanks.... and yes I'd like to hear suggestions from Canadians. One of the reasons that I'd come to the conclusion that a UK source was my best bet, is that I hadn't found any tables on Canadian websites that appealed to me. But perhaps I missed something, and could be convinced otherwise.

        Kevin.

Howdy, Kevin, and welcome to TSF.

There are a number of pool halls in California with snooker tables, so you might consider making a few calls to ask how and where they've acquired snooker tables. Embassy Billiards in San Gabriel may be your best bet since they have more snooker tables than any other room in California (or the rest of the U.S., for that matter).

            http://www.findsnooker.com/California.html

Consider calling a new room or one that has recently acquired a regulation snooker table. Fargo Billiards in North Dakota is supposed to open this month, and the owner may have purchased a brand new table.

Also consider posting at AzBilliards.com, which has a Snooker forum and a Wanted / For Sale forum:
            http://forums.azbilliards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=63 (Snooker)
            http://forums.azbilliards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 (Wanted / For Sale)

I plan to add info to my website about buying and selling snooker tables, but it'll be a while (months) before I have a chance to do that.

            Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome messages, and especially to 'Rethunk' for your suggestions and links.

Rethunk.... I had a look at your site and was amazed that the information you have collected there. I was also surprised to find that there are actually at least 28 full size tables in California. None of them are near where I live, and these days I don't hang around clubs or bars, so hadn't been aware that there were any here at all. The vast majority of people I know and met here, have never even heard the word 'snooker', let alone know that it is a great game and pastime. I'm pursuing some suggestions from another forum, and will certainly follow up on your suggestions if those don't pan out.

                Thanks again,
                Kevin.

You're certainly welcome, and thanks. It all started back when I started looking for a snooker table close to Boston, couldn't find one, looked further, etc.

I still haven't found a table close to Boston, but I found a few others in the U.S.

Best of luck to you! If you send me a PM (private message) to let me know what city you live closest to, I'll dig a little further to see if I can find a table close by.

                    I'm about 60 miles N.E. of Sacramento.

Apparently, I don't yet rate sending PM's in this forum, but I can be reached at duguy48@sonic.net

                    Thanks,

I'd forgotten: you must post some minimum number of time before you can send PMs.

Check out this post from a fellow Californian who lives in or near Sacramento:
                      http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ad.php?t=12533

I'll let you know if I find anything closer to Sacramento. The closest room still appears to be Broken Rack in Emeryville, but that's a long hike from where you live.

Jayhoming, do you mean snooker tables in pool halls, or snooker tables for sale?

I have a list of snooker tables in New York here:
                          http://www.findsnooker.com/New_York.html

A few other places that used to have snooker tables sold the table or closed. Let me know if you know of any others.
