Ebony or Rosewood ?

Hi guys,
i want to order new cue, i have sorted out all the specifications
like length,weight,tip size etc. BUT i am little confused about
butt, should i go for ebony or rosewood ?

Remember there is stripy ebony(MACASSAR) too if the cuemaker has it.

a nice dark peice of rosewood with a front splice of maple (curly preferably)

I think that if you go for any of the nicely figured rosewoods, like sonorkeeling or cocobolo, then they look better with no splices, same with macassar ebony. However, if you are going to put a splice over it, then something light, like curly maple or bird's eye looks great IMO.

However, recently a pal showed me pics of a really beautiful red amboyna burr, and that over white veneers on a plain ebony butt looks fantastic, just as nice as cocobolo!!!

it does'nt look anything like macassar. i had sh*tloads of it for years. could'nt wait to get rid of it. sold it to eric lewis few years back for his mass produced jobbies.

however, i kept the bits which were in fact very nice....

The 3rd cue down on this page:http://www.robincues.co.uk/Cue%20Examples.html is made with sonorkeeling rosewood, and the 4th might be. Mastercue used to make some of their machine-spliced models of sonorkeeling as well, have a butcher's at their website, you might get lucky.
