Avatars?

I've been registered a while and would love to have an avatar. I've seen someone ask how to do it before but still didn't understand. I'm a total technophobe so could someone please explain how to do it in very simple language.

click the my panel avatar next to the green icon at the top of your screen.

click on "edit avatar" on the left hand panel on your screen

enter the url of the picture/avatar you want

(if youve seen an avatar or pic that you wish, to get the url:- right click your mouse and select properties.)

I'm obviously very thick!
I've tried all that using a picture kept in My Documents but when I click properties it doesn't give me an url!
