First of all it's my birthday today but it's not been listed on the 'todays birthday' page
No but seriously I just want to say how pleased I am to have found TSF. I have learnt more over the last few weeks than I have in over 40 years of trying to play the game. I am 62 yrs young today and I took early retirement 2 yrs ago. Even though I have always been c**p at the game ( highest break 33) I have always felt that I could do so much better and now that I have the time to spare I am having coaching from a local player to improve my basic cue action initially. He is a 147 man and I have known him since he was in nappies. I am determined to prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks (if the dog is willing).
I have an ash one peice cue that I bought on e-bay 6 months ago, badged as Elite, Snooker Craft, England--57.5" long, 9.5mm tip, 17.25oz, 15.5 balance. I am very happy with it but then I have never played with a really good cue so what do I know. It's straight and it feels good.
OK I know it's not the best way to buy a cue but some of the cues that are written about on here are out of my reach and they leave me green with envy and salivating at the mouth. However If I can improve my game sufficiently, who knows, I might be able to persuade the trouble and strife.
One point interests me about cues, is all the splicing and pretty bits of wood necessary to make a cue perform well and ensure it stays straight? I can understand why people like a good looking cue and even collect them but my main interest is improving my standard of play.
