  • Snooker fan from USA

Hi all, I just registered and am happy to have found this forum. I grew up playing pool (mainly 8 ball), but from time to time my dad and I would play snooker. Snooker in the USA has an odd history. Back in the 50s, 60s, and early 1970s, snooker was very commonly played, but after these times snooker was supplanted by pool. Nowadays no one here plays or even knows what snooker is. Sad, really.

When I went to university (Kansas State) we were lucky enough to have a nice snooker table (in amongst two dozen pool tables and one billiard table, oddly enough). I played a lot of snooker with a Scottish student who was studying at Kansas State (Donald, are you out there??) and really fell in love with the game.

I really haven't had the opportunity to play much, as there aren't any tables around where I live now, but I plan on travelling into Kansas City to get back into playing.

So, that's my story. Glad to be here.

Welcome aboard mate, shame that you need to travel so far if you want to play. Maybe long term goal could be to build yourself a snooker room in your back yard as others do (Ime lucky in that i only need to travel maybe a mile at the most)

        Welcome to TSF.

If you check out the Maps page at FindSnooker.com you might find a pool hall with a snooker table a bit closer to you. South of KC there's a reasonably high density of towns with snooker tables.

Let me know if you find any snooker tables for which I don't currently have a listing.

If you're headed into KC, you might want to contact user Chin0 on the AzB forum. He posted this thread:

Thanks for the information, Rethunk. I live approximately between KC, Kansas and Emporia, so there's nothing particularly close.

I will say, having been in Manhattan for college, both the Kansas State University student union and Fast Eddies had snooker tables (1 at each location). That was 15 years ago, however :-)
