What was the tournament?

Hi
I'm trying to get information on a specific tournament won by Jimmy White.

About 20 years ago, an "Open" tournament was held in London (i think)..
A huge prize fund meant all the top pros and ams entered, with the eventual
winner (White) receiving two hundred thousand pounds.
I remember watching this on "Supersport" (i think)... The coverage was excellent, with Jim Meadowcroft one of the commentators.

What was this tournament called?? Any information on this tournament would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, it was promoted by Barry Hearn I seem to remember. Jimmy beat Tony Drago in the final.

It was at the time when Alex Higgins had been banned for 1 year but the Mita wasn't played under the auspices of the WPBSA. One of the features of the event was that all former World Champions were invited to play and Higgins duly accepted his invite. This sparked controversy and Hendry threatened to pull out if Higgins played while banned by the WPBSA. Not wishing to be the cause of the current World Champion and No. 1's withdrawal from the event, Alex did the honourable thing and stood down himself.

Great tournament.....it was my first Snooker experience and I still got all matches on VHS video .... Jimmys matches against Wattana and Drago were fantastic.....

Those were the days.....
