Hi,

I thought I would post a hello from the North Eastern US, as my favorite pool hall has just acquired a full size snooker table. I'm a novice and looking forward to acquiring snooker skills. I'm finding it to be an excellent challenge!

Next step - move beyond the house cues.

Welcome cascaders. I'm surprised a billiards hall in Mass. has installed a full-sized snooker table. Just make sure they do the pockets right as a lot of tables in the States have very tight pocket used for playing golf and are not much good for snooker.

Free coaching is available here on this site plus I run a coaching facility in Southern Ontario plus I have a small selection of very fine snooker cues which I purchase, refurbish and then re-sell plus I also have some new ones from time to time

I believe the pockets to be correct, but do not have access to a template to be positive.

Terry - I would be interested in knowing what you have available - do you have a website or ebay listing?

I don't really do this as as business, more like a hobby. For my coaching I do on-line coaching here in TSF and am with www.thesnookergym.com which is owned and run by Nic Barrow, the IBSF Head Coach and I am the Master Coach on the site. There is a lot of good information both here and on the snookergym.

As for cues, right now I have a small selection of 6 cues. All are ash shaft with brass ferrules, around 9.5mm, 57in and 18oz with mostly 3/4-butt cues but one really fine 1-piece. All come with a case (either faux leather or aluminum) and all are perfectly straight with Pro Granite tips. All come with the short and long extensions.

Some are used but I have a brand new Dan Shelton 3/4-butt which is a remarkable cue which I'm seriously thinking of switching to once this season is over and I have a chance to get used to it.

I have a used Acuerate for around $450 + shipping, the new Dan Shelton for $650 + shipping, a 1-piece used UT cue for $500 + shipping and a couple of B&W 3/4-butt cues for $250 + shipping, but no case or extensions with them. I also have a very nice Dark Horse (Chinese cue) with extensions and case for around $300.

I played on that table just this past Tuesday. I think Calvin has done a fine job in setting it up. He's going to have it leveled again now that it has settled a bit.

Definitely send Terry an email about snooker cues he has on offer. If you'd like to meet at The Billiard Cafe I could show you my Mike Wooldridge Shark. I plan to be there next Tuesday for the weekly tournament (probably w/o my snooker cue, though), and perhaps I'll play snooker the following Tuesday (the 25th).

Terry, I'm still working on getting Canadian listings together. Updating my database software has been a slow process.

The table has new rails. As far as I can tell the table has the proper pocket sizes and the proper cloth.

I think snooker is (very slowly) becoming more popular in the States, especially with a lot of immigrants coming from countries where snooker is popular. Chicago, California and New York are small enclaves with some good clubs in those areas, and I see there are some clubs with one or two snooker tables now.

However, in some cases they have the small pockets for golf (which wouldn't be much of a challenge on a 9ft pool table) and also are clothed in pool cloths with no nap, which does change the game quite a bit.

For any American snooker fans, there are a set of template drawing here on the site which are .pdf documents and can be printed off to scale and with them you can check out the pocket sizes on your local table.

Rethunk: - I don't typicall get down there on Tuesdays, but we did briefly meet before it was setup, and I look forward to seeing you there again. I thought you have a very nice cue. I understand the table was releveled, and assume it will probably require a while to fully settle.

Terrry - thanks for the info. I'll check out the site you mentioned and probably try a few local cues before I decide what parameters matter to me. Thanks for the info regarding templates. I did find some drawings, but not .pdfs, so I will keep looking. Once I get PM status it will be easier to communicate privately, but I am reluctant to post my email.

That table looks quite nice (a bit unusual from a British persective, having a solid 'pool table' body instead of individual legs). I would suggest to the owner to try and get some pocket leathers, if possible, because those plastic pockets are going to damage the balls.
