Newbie from US

Hi everyone, this is actaually my second post, sorry. Anyway, I'm in the eastern US, not exactly snooker country, but I have played it a little. I have a brother who plays snooker regularly, though not at the same room I play in. We are adding a 10 footer in the next few weeks in my room, so I'm looking to get into it pretty heavy soon. I generally play 14.1 and one-pocket, and some occasional 9 ball, so I think I can adapt to snooker, we'll see. Anyway, thanks for all the great info you guys put up, I read here all the time.

If you are a good 14.1 player then you should pick up snooker fairly quickly even though there is less choices for position on the next ball generally.

Also, if your club has the room I would recommend you go with a 6'x12' table rather than a 10'. If you need a source I can give you a guy here in the Toronto area who sells used tables and he also will travel and set them up and will follow on with re-clothing and re-rubbering when you need it.

By "my room", I mean the pool hall I play in. I have no say as to what tables they buy, but a 6 x 12 would be an interesting challenge. Actually I'm wondering about my 13mm tip and the smaller cue ball. Thinking seriously about a real snooker cue. Another thing I wonder about is why Europeans use like an 8mm tip for 8 ball in the UK. Do they use smaller balls for eight ball also?

Yes, I would recommend you go for a proper snooker cue. They are generally a little lighter than pool cues at 18oz or so and the ferrules are around 9.5mm to 9mm normally.

UK pool does use smaller balls and 8mm is the norm for tip size, although most use a modified snooker cue and because a lot of the tables are squeezed into pubs they sometimes have to use just their shaft to play a shot.

Templates

Hi Terry, will I be able to buy those WHITE PLASTIC TEMPLATES ( pocket templates) which I saw on Mic Website???and how much they cost???

I have no idea what you are talking about and was not aware Nic was selling any templates. This is unusual as Nic normally forwards me any info on any of the snooker gym products
