  • Newbie from India !

    Hello folks !

I'm from India and play snooker fairly regularly. The sport is not so big here as a lot of people (including me) follow cricket mostly but I love this game and I've started playing like 5 days a week now.

Snooker for me is just a brilliant way to wind down after a hard days work, even with its pressure (if you're up against a good player with some money on stake ) and the concentration required, nothing relaxes me like a few good frames of snooker at the local joint.

Looking forward to bettering my technique and learning a few tips and tricks here !

    Regards.

What cue are you using ? Once you get involved on here you will get the bug about buying cues ! i can't shake it !

Enjoy your stay on here .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Thanks for the welcome guys !

            @Freddie Ng : I'm sure I will thanks.

@Neil : Hmmm...I get consistent breaks of 25-30, but I don't have the shot consistency in my game in my opinion, means I do miss very easy shots from time to time which really annoys me. Frankly, I'm not completely comfortable with my cuing action and I've been watching a lot of videos to correct my action and stance and therefore bettering my technique.

And @Iancafc : I have recently bought a cue, its not branded as this is the first cue I've bought (the snooker joints here provides cues for you to play when you go in), and I'm just gonna get the hang of owning a cue with this one and hopefully it will get me the consistency I'm looking for. This one costed me about 30 pounds, in my currency that is over 2300 bucks.

I don't know much about buying cues for now, this one is a 3/4 jointed, not heavy not light and as straight as it can be and neither do I know about the tip. The owner of the local joint is a friend and he changes the tip for free if it breaks (has happened once because of a bad miscue).

About the coaching scene, its not very bright down here you see, the handful of coaches I've seen just rip off people as has been told to me by their very students.

Well, hopefully I'll have much more knowledge of these things as I spend my time here. Can you please suggest a cue for beginners ? Thanks.

I do play better players than me most of the time and it has always been like that for me I guess. And I said I make consistent breaks of 25-30, my highest break in match play is 52 though.

About the cue, I'm actually very happy with my current one as of now. It has loads of power, a beautiful shaft and I'm feeling as if I'm getting more movement on the ball than I ever have, though I'll definitely ask for help here once I get rid of this one.

One question I have is, well I don't know if this thread is the right place to ask or not but snooker is never ever telecasted here where I live and I've been itching to get videos of the World Championship 2010, is there a website I can find those on frame by frame ? I'd be grateful if someone responds.

                Regards.

Do you have satellite tv. You may get it on ESPN or Star Sports, but definiteley there is a lack of snooker on tv in India. Which part of the country you from.

I do have a DTH connection and no ESPN and Star sports is all about cricket here. Do get a bit of football when lucky but snooker telecasts are almost never shown, I catch em may be once an year lol !

I'm from Delhi btw, trying to get admission in Salford University for further studies + reunite with my gf who went an year ago, so hopefully I'll get to watch more by next year. Still, looking for 2010 World Championship videos. Isn't there a link or something of that sort where I can find those ?
