  • Hello Folks

New to this site, love snooker and want to improve. My highest break to date is 65, but that was a one off with all balls sitting perfect.

My biggest issue is consistency, i knock in balls for fun one day then the next day im pants. ]

Any tips and guidance would be great!

    Cheers

Welcome to the site - very friendly and helpful I think you will find. As for your last comment about your game - welcome to snooker Lol. I think we all suffer with that trait, good one day and pants the next. I am certainlyt not immune to this either, but there is so many things that can affect how you play - not least your state of mind before you start........

            Welcome

Inconsistency is likely caused by minor flaws/inconsistencys in your cue action. If you can record a video of your action, from directly behind, on multiple shots, and multiple types of shots i.e. top, stun, draw with low, med, and high bridge (over a ball) etc then one of the coaches on here (hopefully Terry Davidson) might have a few comments/pointers for you.

Cheers guys, i will look into getting a video at some point and you can give my que action a dressing down lol.

With regards to inconstancy, im in no doubt it is my que action, i know how i should be doing it, but the biggest problem is executing the correct technique.

I work offshore, and am just coming to the end of my time at home, have put in a good 20 hours of snooker, my main strength, in my opinion is my basic potting ability, ( which has come from drunking cash games on the pool table). More ofetn or not i find myself pulling off a fantastic long pot, followed by a difficult black, only to miss a simple red by a long way...........I think concentration is my main problem

I play at a local hotel which only has three tables ( although they are good tables) next time i will be on the hunt for a proper snooker hall, with proper players who can hopefully help me improve my game

DOnt know if anyone on here is from the Dundee, Scotland area could recommend a good club?

              Cheers

consistency is an issue i have in both snooker and pool i imagine you like me are a rythmic/natural type player

the worst thing a rhythmic player can do is change their speed as it messes up rhythm my suggestion will be play instinctively

my issue has always been when i consciencely think about a shot i miss it when i play it by instinct i pot it

strangely my safety is good when im playing badly bad when im playing well in both games

theres another way to think about potting reds every red thats potted takes 8 points away from your opponent so running out of position isnt as bad if you follow if you pot every red you only need the balk colours to leave your opponent needing a snooker

needing a snooker is a phrase that is technically wrong getting a snooker isnt good enough you need fouls not snookers

probably he best advice on positional play is to always leave two options but try and make one option slightly better as if they are the same whichever way you go you will be caught in two minds

also position on the black differs depending on which black if the black is after a red perfect position is an angle

if your black is the last ball on the table perfect position is straight because it makes the pot easiest

do you know the biggest annoyance to rhythm players and you all know the type its the fella who goes to the bar during a match so you have to wait to play your shot

im sorry but if you leave the table during a match then i will get a witness to confirm the legality of my break you shouldnt go to the bar until the frame is over
