  • Snooker geek seeks practice buddy

    Hi All,

This is my first post, despite me perusing the forum since January.

Having messed around with snooker as a teenager and wondering why I never got any good at it, despite doing well at every other sport I tried, I find myself many years later falling in love with the game.

I hit the dreaded 40 in January and to soften the pain, I booked myself and my Dad in for two days coaching with Nic Barrow of the IBSF. Believe it or not a silly XBox game had piqued my interest in the game and made me remember - "..yeah, I never did get any good at snooker - I wonder why?!!!"

To cut a long story short, with Nic's guidance and a lot of practice (and thanks to some major changes to how I address the cue ball) I am improving at a great rate of knots and thoroughly enjoying the challenge. I'm able to do su much more already than in my first 'stint' at snooker but more importantly I am beginning to see and understand the nuances and tactical thoughts and the subtle skills required to excel at this fabulous game.

I know snooker looks really dull on the telly, but like anything in life, once you get stuck in and peel away the layers, a whole kingdom of hope and opportunity springs forth!!

I'm a bit of a geek at heart and will get stuck in and go to the nth degree to get as good as I can. I managed to turn myself into a good enough golfer to shoot under par reasonably often and have a best of 65, so I'm hoping to get good enough at snooker to be competitive and really enjoy it.

I'm hoping there is someone around in the East Midlands who is similarly mad/keen/geeky/barmy about snooker with whom to bounce around ideas and to offer help and encouragement.

Age, sex and ability are not really important - just the desire like me to have a laugh whilst trying to get as good as possible. Oh, and to share table costs!!

May the force be with us (and Ding Junhui whom I have in the office sweep).

Between Loughborough and Nottingham. Quite near the M1. I'm a member of a Spot On Snooker Club in Loughborough and also Melton Snooker Club near where my Dad lives. I practice at my golf club where they have 2 tables.

          Where are you my friend?
