Hi all
New member from Bristol here.
I used to play a bit in my teens but my eyesight got too bad to see around the table properly and I lost interest.
I'm an IT contractor but have been out of contract since the end of March. As a result I was able to watch most of the latest World Championship and it really sparked my interest again. So, I got myself sorted out with some contact lenses and joined the local Rileys due to the current offer they have where you can pay to play all day and get the next 6 days free. This particular Rileys seems to be one of the better ones - the tables that were poor when I joined have just been re-clothed and the only real issue is that there are only 6 Snooker tables and they are in the same room as the English pool tables which seem to attract crowds of extremely noisy folk! I think I will eventually join Keynsham Snooker centre as the general rates are better and I'm sure it offers a better playing atmosphere.
Been playing a fair bit over the last few weeks and am starting to improve now. I'm still pretty poor by most standards but last time I played I sort of managed a 6 ball 16 point break. I say sort of as I went in off the final colour
Anyway, my birthday is on Monday and I will be in the market for a new cue using any money I am given. I currently have a BCE hand spliced cue I bought for about £60 when I was 15, but I've kind of ruined it - I tried removed the lacquer with some nitromors but in the process completely messed up the ends of the splices - obviously the nitromors got to the glue Anyway, the cue is not worth a great deal and I've never got on with it all that well. With the rough splice edges the cue is now extremely distracting to play with!
After a fair bit of research I'm looking at a GBL C2 3/4 as I think this seems to represent the best cue for a moderate budget. Was considering a Wooldridge shark but Mike seems to be ultra busy at the moment.
Seems like a nice helpful forum you have here and I've already learned a lot
Cheers
