  • Hi everyone, nice to be part of this community

    Hi there,

I'm new here and just want to introduce myself to the crew.

I'm from Croatia, (sorry for bad English) 41 year old and (don't wanna lie here) ...I NEVER PLAY SNOOKER IN MY LIFE, actually I never saw real snooker table yet ... so what I doing on this forum !??!

    But...

Before year and a half I wasn't know even what snooker is, and than accidentally I turn my tv on Eurosport... it was 17.01.2010, some unknown guys play something, it was Masters, final mach Selby-O'Sullivan, 9-6 for Ronnie in best of 20 at the point... and I start watching.

It was some kind of enlightenment for me, in few minutes I understand all rules, point system and strategy part of game. Selby win 10-9 in ( that I realise after long time ) one of the most beautiful match ever. I was totally shocked about what I just saw... and still I am, my life changed from that day.
Even I know players very well now (I predict winners in all matches of this year World Championship except final ) Shelby is still my favorite player, maybe just because of that first match but his safety play is unbelievable..(and sometimes excessively)

From that day till now I'm totally obsessed with game, reading books, learn history and everything connected with snooker, preparing practice lessons , watch every posible match on tv or net and boring everybody around me with something what they don't understand.
In meantime I'm retired (Instrucor of Special Police Force in war in Croatia, crime inspector, parashut diver, scuba diver...) but all that now is behind and not important... rest of my life I wanna play snooker!
Unfortunately I live in Rijeka, one of 3 largest Croatian cities... WITH NO ONE SNOOKER TABLE, and to be worst... first snooker table (and one of the only few in Croatia) is in Zagreb, 200 km from me
I know what my age means and everybody will laugh „hey man you are late for 20-30 years to start with snooker !“
But..I can't give it up, it's like cancer now, I plan to go in London in September, buy some decent cue ( Peradon York is still my first option even I saw here that everybody put Mastercraft before Peradon... maybe at least I change my mind, but first I wanna feel both in my hand). There I will stay in North Harrow so I plan to go every day in North Harrow Snooker Center (and maybe met Martin Gould there ), after that I try to go 2-3 times a week in Zagreb (how much my financials let me) and practice, practice... and practice.
I know in what illusions I live.. but I must try.

Well, it's little bit too much for introducing but i just wanna to say hello to all of this beautiful community which maybe can understand freak like me. I also appreciate some advices and testimonials about equipment that I couldn't find anywhere else.

            Hi, welcome to the forum!

Nice to see that you love snooker and best of luck with your trip to the UK. Just one piece of advice, the first thing you need to do when you start playing is to learn the basics and get the basics correct in your game. Otherwise, when you start playing, you will be practicing with incorrect technique which could become something of a habit. Getting into good habits early on with your basic technique such as stance, grip and cue action, is very important. Then you can start to practice it.

Thanks for advices, I understand that, thats way I dont even wanna play regular billiard which i have minute from home, I dont want to make habits on wrong sizes of balls, cue, table, holes etc. I realise importants of basic techniques so I study some books and guides I found on net. I dont wont to play snooker for looooong time, just to be alone at table with two-three bals and practice practice practice
