Am only new to this forum so thought id say hello. I'm an amatuer player but gonna try to play more next year and am looking for my first cue. Any tips on cues and playing would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum strainers1. Have you checked out the search facility yet? There's loads of good advice to be found there in the archives, and if you've got a specific question, just post it and I'm sure you'll get answers aplenty.
