  • Craftsman Cues - Leeds

    Hi guys,

I'm going to be on a stag do in Leeds in a few weeks time. I know Craftsman have a cue shop up there, but according to Google maps, it's ten miles out of the city centre, so I'd need to get a cab there. Basically, I was wondering if anyone has been, and if so, whether or not they would recommend a visit (is there a good range of cues, are they happy for you to spend a while on the tables to get a feel for the different cues, etc? I am looking to buy a new snooker cue pretty soon, so I wouldn't just be visiting for a look around.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Actually - one other quick question. Anyone know where I can my cue re-tipped for a reasonable price in central-ish London?

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Craftsman. Yes are excellent place to buy a cue and try before you buy. You can spend as much time as you like. They shut at 4 pm on the Saturday I think. Whereabouts in Leeds you staying? Maybe I could offer advice for travel. I live in between Leeds and Wakefield. Simon and Dave at craftsman are more than helpful. Have great cues. Also do made to order if you require different spec on cues. Will deliver it no problem. What spec you after?
    Always a pleasure

        Hi Neil,

Thanks for getting back to me, but both of these guys charge what seems like a small fortune to me. They both ask for almost £50. I can get it done in the north east for £12.50 from the guy who runs the Green Baize shop in Thornaby. I know that's a real bargain, so I was hoping to find somehwere down here where I can get it done for £20-£25.

        Cheers,

        Steve.

Bought a Phoenix cue from Craftsman around two weeks ago. Spent around two hours trying out a few different cues (there was approx 100 handmade cues). Very happy with my visit and the cue I eventually chose.

How much!!!!! What they re tipping it with gold plated tip, put on by naked virgins which you can watch while they're doing it!!!! £50 is ridiculous for a re tipping service. If you can bring your cue up with you to good old Yorkshire. Then craftsman re tip cues for £4.50. That includes a tip. No virgins are present though!!!!!!!!!

              Hi Michael,

My apologies - I missed this reply. I'll be staying in one of the hotels right next to the main train station - think it's next to the Hilton (someone else booked).

I'm not exactly suire what spec I want, which is why I definitely want to try before I buy. I have a Peradon Canon cue at the moment. I think it's a little on the light side and I would like a small tip - no bigger than 9 mm. I don't really like the finish on my cue at the moment; I think it's vanished, so it gets sticky quite easily - especially in the summer. I want something that's going to run through my hand a little easier. Basically, I'd need a bit of advice from the guys in the shop. Anyway, probably a little more info than necessary; any travel advice you have would be much appreciated.

              Cheers,

              Steve.

Ha ha, sometimes I hate living in London! Mind you, fifty quid for a gold plated tip applied by a naked virgin is quite the bargain! I'm not surprised JP is popular!

If I'm around. I don't mind dropping you at the shop itself. To show you were it is. Taxi back to Leeds would be about a tenner. Or buses stop outside craftsman and go into Leeds. About £2 each way

No worries mate. It's just on kippax high street next to a pub and opposite boots. You can't miss it. Any problems give me a shout. If I'm about I don't mind giving you a lift. I usually pop see simon and Dave once a week. I'm going tomorrow to pick up a cue he's refinishing for me. I'll mention your post on TSF to him. So he knows when you pop in. Put your cue in for re tipping if your pal is driving.

                        Hi Michael,

Sorry, just one last question. Because of the level I'm at, I'm really couldn't justify spending more than £200 on a cue. Will Crafstman be out of my price range or do they have a decent range of prices?

                        Cheers,

                        Steve.

Ah Neil, you've just jogged my memory. I must apologise, but you're right, the prices I quoted are wrong. I was actually inquiring about get the ferrul reduced, which is around £50 (I called both guys); but yes, just getting the cue retipped will most certainly be a lot less. Forgot that I got the ferrul reduced as well as having the cue retipped.

I'll probably just go along to Parris Cues now, so thanks for the pointing this out.

                            Steve.
